Kevin P Canton, 56 from Avery Lost His Life in Collision off Hwy 4

Arnold, CA...The Sad Notifications have been made and CHP San Andreas has released the full details on the Collision that took the life of an Avery man. On December 10, 2021, at approximately 12:07 am, while on scene at a prior unrelated non-injury traffic collision near SR-4 west of Big Trees Village Drive, a CHP officer and tow truck operator located a vehicle approximately 50' down an embankment on its side, against a tree, north of SR-4 in the brush. The vehicle was not visible from the roadway.

Kevin P Canton, 56 from Avery was located within the vehicle, but due to the extensive damage to the vehicle, neither the CHP officer nor the tow truck operator were able to access the driver. Personnel from the Ebbetts Pass Fire District and CalFire responded to the scene and extricated the driver using heavy rescue equipment. The driver was extricated, and found to be deceased. There were no other occupants in or around the vehicle.

It is unknown when the collision occurred, as the vehicle was cold to the touch when it was located. The collision is believed to have occurred in the afternoon or evening of December 9, 2021.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact the San Andreas CHP office at (209) 754-3541.

Drugs and/or alcohol use is under investigation.

Our prayers are with Mr. Canton's family and details are below...
