Caldor Fire Burns to 6,500 Acres, Some Structures Lost, Potential to Impact Hwy 88 Corridor

Grizzly Flats, CA...Extreme fire behavior was observed overnight causing immediate mandatory evacuations in the area and structure loss was observed. The actual number of destroyed/damaged structures is undetermined as fire conditions are not yet safe to bring in damage assessment teams. The fire continues to pose a high risk to multiple populated communities. Additional evacuations orders are anticipated. The Fire is predicted to impact Sly Park Lake and interstate travel including important evacuation routes.

There is a continued threat to structures (combination of residences and outbuildings) in the communities of Omo Ranch and Grizzly Flats as well as private businesses, commercial timberlands, vineyards and other agricultural lands.

This is a rapidly changing incident with dynamic fire behavior. Our primary goal is always public and fire fighter safety – be prepared.

This is just incessant - every year all summer is ruined between the excessive heat, drought, constant fires and heartache for those who have gotten their homes and towns destroyed.

Wish I had a answer but I don’t. Hikers don’t need a campfire this time of year. “Hobart fire.” Most are really good but, it only takes one being irresponsible. So very sad to see the destruction and devastation that could be avoided.

It is trust heart breaking! Such a shame that qualified resources have been and are being sucked into USFS fires as a result of incompetence and dereliction! Those resources would be helpful here.
