It Was A Summer of Love with Bob Weir, The Rat Dog and Gov't Mule!
Murphys, CA....It was a Love Fest at Ironstone Vineyards last Friday eve for the Bob Weir, Rat Dog and Gov't Mule Concert! We decided to take our boys to this concert as John thought it would make for a nice family outing. Why not take our 6 and 10 year old boys to a "Dead Head" concert, right? When we first arrived our boys were a little taken back. There were vw vans, people with hoola hoops, dread's, lot's of tie die and plenty of love to go around. Actually a very nice crowd of people. The music was wonderful as it brought back some of those fond 60's memories to all that attended.....
One of Bob Weir’s best-loved songs is “The Music Never Stopped.” It holds true, even in the 21st century. As a matter of fact, as the century goes along, it’s even truer. Even when his first band, the Grateful Dead, was playing close to 100 show yearly, Weir needed other outlets, and developed a solo career that began with albums like “Ace” and “Heaven Help the Fool.”
Bob Weir is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, most recognized as a founding member of the Grateful Dead. After the Grateful Dead disbanded, Weir performed with The Other Ones, later known as The Dead, together with other former members of the Grateful Dead. Weir also founded and played in several other bands during and after his career with the Grateful Dead, including Kingfish, the Bob Weir Band, Bobby and the Midnites, and his current band, Ra tDog.
Weir played mostly rhythm guitar during his career with the Grateful Dead. He is known for his unique style of complex voiceleading, bringing unusual depth and a new approach to the role of rhythm guitar expression.
Gov't Mule is a southern rock/jam band formed in 1994 as an Allman Brothers Band side project. They released their debut album Gov't Mule in 1995. Gov't Mule has become a staple act at many music festivals including Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Mountain Jam, Vegoose, and their annual New Orleans Jazzfest night show.
All in all it was a great evening....There is a special moment I will always remember about that eve.....It is when our 10 year old son said "Mommy you do not want to go down to the front of the stage....There are thousands of people smoking "Marinara!" This is something I will write in the books!
