Ann Mazzaferro Introduces the Magic of Theatre this Summer with Beauty and the Beast!~By Hanna Alldrin
Angels Camp, CA....Walt Disney's 1991 instant classic film, Beauty and the Beast, is not only the finest animated movie ever made, but deserves an all thumbs up for the transition from screen to theatre. This afternoon 50 cast members attended the very first practice for the summer play production. The young actors and actresses received their roles, lines, and scripts during the first half of the practice. Ann Mazzaferro proudly directed the cast through a run through, reading the script from start to finish.....

Auditions were held last Tuesday and Thursday where over 65 students showed their special talents and performances.
Performances will be held at Bret Harte Theatre on Saturday, July 26.
This is Ann's fourth year directing a play, "the auditions are going very well, I have had children play the ukulele and dance ballet," shared Ann. Ann has had over 62 children audition so far and is very excited to start practicing. "I also have had one boy audition for the stool, he could sing very well but he just wanted to be the stool, that was very cute." Ann also shared "a girl came with a completed resume which was very professional."
Calaveras Children's Reperatory Theatre is a non-profit organization. Our money is raised through donations, grants, and sponsors so there is no charge for the children.
Below is a short scene between Belle and Gaston two very important characters to the play:
GASTON: Hello, Belle.
BELLE: Bonjour Gaston.
(GASTON grabs the book from BELLE)
Gaston, may I have my book, please?
GASTON: How can you read this? There's no pictures!
BELLE: Well, some people use their imaginations.
GASTON: Belle, it's about time you got your head out of those books
(tossing book into the mud) and paid attention to more important things...like me! The whole town's talking about it.
(The BIMBETTES, who are looking on, sigh. BELLE
has picked up the book and is cleaning off the mud)
It's not right for a woman to read--soon she starts getting ideas... and thinking.
BELLE: Gaston, you are positively primeval.
GASTON: (Putting his hand around her shoulders)
Why thank you, Belle. Hey, what do you say you and me take a walk over to
the tavern and have a look at my hunting trophies.
We cant wait to see the whole production come together next month! Good luck young actors!
BELLE: Maybe some other time.
