Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Neighborhood Watch Meeting

Arnold, CA...*Prior to the meeting, the Sheriff’s Office had a lengthy discussion with Neighborhood Watch coordinators to ensure precautions were in place to ensure social distancing was respected. When social distancing was not possible, masks were to be utilized. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was asked to attend a Neighborhood Watch Meeting on August 30th, 2020, outside in the driveway of a residence in Blue Lake Springs. Topics included how to organize a neighborhood watch group, security cameras, home alarms, exterior lighting, securing yard equipment, what to do in a fire evacuation, ensuring to lock doors and windows, not opening the door for someone you don't know, the use of automatic timers to turn on the lights when you and your family aren't home, and other basic home security measures.

The Sheriff’s Office strives to continue to work with our citizens on the importance of community-oriented policing to enhance the overall safety of our community. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the meeting organizer and persons in attendance for their hospitality and support.

Please contact Sgt. Greg Stark (209) 754-6500 if you are interested in hosting a community event.

Very sad that our community isn't safe anymore. Moved here 40 years ago when you could trust everyone. Came from a area that was starting to grow. Guess I should feel lucky it lasted as long as it did. Looking to leave after retirement

It's sad that we were unable to keep the county, a country place to live. The greed of those extremely heartless who only seek great monetary gains from tourists, second home owners, businesses only catering to out of towners, etc. Bringing with them increased traffic, crime, trash, inflated costs, taxes, fees to all locals that have to deal with the negative consequences of their actions. None of them care about this county or the detriment they cause to the community. They have never had, and never will have, or understand life long love, care, and actual well meaning tight family and community connection in their lives.

It seems that they get some sick satisfaction of trashing everything in their paths. They will eventually have to move too as the undesirable consequences and actual personal safety dangers keep building and become too much for them too

    Isn't safe?
Compared to the rest of the country, we are plenty safe.
The local bear and an occasional raccoon are more a threat than any humans.
I wouldn't think twice shooting a tweaker vs a pesky bear.

Prevent covid-19 by wearing a mask when going out, washing your hands often with soap, and cleaning the house to reduce the virus. fireboy and watergirl

Funny that the only places where local law enforcement comes to meet with homeowners are in areas with well to do flatlanders, Arnold or Greenhorn. Local poor people are on their own.

All you have to do is set up an appointment.
We've had our Arnold resident deputy at our homeowners meeting several times.
If you're an advocate of neighborhood watch groups, then speak up.

If you call any of the LE agencies (depends on if you live in county or city), and tell them you need a patrol-like I did with this isolated alley behind our house-they will make it a point cruise through the area at night. Now if they have a crucial or emergency call, they would have to leave asap. Just the appearance alone of a police car can be a deterrent to "would be" predators or perpetrators. I myself also just bought a container of bear spray (same principle as mace) that deters anyone trying to attack me on the street for $45.00 and very compact too AND legal! Its great for senior citizens who are the most vulnerable. They are made by a company known as Freedom and have all kinds of self defense weapons in their catalog.
