Tortoise Expected to Recover After Being Struck by Vehicle

San Andreas, CA...From CAL FJRE TCU..."CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Division Chief Frese also understands that duty calls at peculiar times. Yesterday he rescued this tortoise that had been hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Hwy. 49 and Mountain Ranch Rd. in San Andreas. The tortoise was transferred to an animal rescue for care. He is due for surgery tomorrow and expected to recover."

How do you run over that large of an animal in the road? Stop speeding and pay attention, morons.

Speeding might not of been the problem but not paying attention sure was.
I saw a turtle crossing hwy 4 yrs ago near Sherri Davis (?) Bookkeeping, grabbed him before he was hit and Ron's wife from A-1 Tree Service let me put him in their pond.

Well no doubt the 🐢 looked both way then just darted out in front of the driver as swift as a peregrine falcon swooping down on a quail.

Poor little guy. Tortoise shells are mostly living tissue like our finger nails. That's gotta hurt.

A beautiful creature like this wouldn't be wild, would it? Have seen turtles in ponds but not large tortoises. Shouldn't someone be missing him or her?
