Upper Hwy 4 Man is Fourteenth Case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County
San Andreas, CA...On Sunday May 24, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed an additional case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. This case is an adult male who resides along the Upper Highway 4 Corridor. The individual was not showing symptoms at the time of testing. “As people observe Memorial Day weekend this serves as a reminder that coronavirus doesn’t take weekends off,” said Dr. Dean Kelaita, Calaveras County Health Officer. “We urge people to take preventive actions to lower their risk of getting COVID-19 as we enjoy recently opened areas of Calaveras County.”
Calaveras Public Health staff will continue to investigate this new case to determine any possible persons who may have had close personal contact with the positive individual. Close contacts will be assessed and monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness.
There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Calaveras Public Health urges the public to:
Stay at least 6 feet away from others
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissues, or your elbow (not your hands)
Wear a cloth face covering when you are around people not in your household
“Everyone should continue to do their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the county. Let’s avoid undoing everything we have built to protect the health of our community,” said Dr. Kelaita.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for Calaveras County is now fourteen.
Of those confirmed cases, thirteen cases have since recovered. To date, there have
been no reported deaths to COVID-19.
