Hospital's Celebrate National Hospital Week in May
Hospital Week is a Nationally-recognized week to celebrate the great work hospitals do to keep our population healthy. It is a time to give thanks to those doctors, nurses, and support staff who have a passion for patient care. "Did you know...National Hospital Week is celebrated in May. Take time to appreciate the excellent health care choices available in our foothill communities." ....
Each May hospitals across the Nation celebrate Hospital Week. The nation's most traditional health care event unites hospitals, health care workers and communities from coast to coast, building enthusiasm and pride in the giving nature of care. Today nearly 6,000 hospitals and over five million dedicated staff members serve as beacons of hope in their communities.
On May 12, 1921, America celebrated its first National Hospital Day. Fittingly held on Florence Nightingale's birthday (she had died 11 years earlier at the age of 90), it provided a window of opportunity for hospitals to capture the trust of their communities. The event spread across the country and was expanded to National Hospital Week in 1953. Today, the annual celebration continues to be held during the week of the legendary nurse's birthday, a symbol of her lasting impact on health care.
At Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas, Hospital Week is usually shared with the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. During the week employee are recognized for the great job they do in providing excellent health care to our foothill community residents. On Wednesday an employee barbecue, cooked by the Administrative Team, was held on the hospital campus to once again thank them for their skills and talents. Many of the staff will be at the Fair when it opens to support the First Aid Booth, the Livestock Auction, Buckaroo Kids Day, Junior Fair Board, or simply enjoying the Fair.
Take time during the month to appreciate the excellent health care choices available in our foothill communities Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs. The hospital is supported by 45 active physicians practicing in 24 specialties.
