4th Confirmed Case of COVID-19 in Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, April 3, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed a new case of novel coronavirus or COVID-19. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county is now four. Two of the four cases have since recovered. This additional positive case is an adult female from Valley Springs. Testing occurred outside of the county through a commercial laboratory. The source of the exposure to COVID-19 is currently under investigation at this time.

Calaveras Public Health launched a case investigation upon being notified. Public Health staff are identifying persons who may have had close personal contact with this individual, including any friends, family members or healthcare professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 illness. Close personal contacts identified during this investigation will be placed under strict quarantine.

Emerging evidence suggests that there may be people who have COVID-19 and are asymptomatic and capable of spreading the virus to others. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that we take universal precautions all the time – assume that each of us can infect others even when we aren’t sick. This includes the new recommendation to wear a cloth face covering when going outside for essential activities.
“Calaveras will get through this together by staying home as much as possible, self-isolating when we are sick, and self-quarantining if we’ve been exposed, said Dean Kelaita, MD, Calaveras County Health Officer.

Keep Calaveras safe and healthy:
 Stay at home
o Wash your hands often
o Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
o Avoid being around sick people and maintain physical distancing, especially by staying at home

 Keep your space
o Avoid close contact with people who are sick
o Create a space, at least 6 feet, between people

 Cover your face
o Wear a cloth face covering when you must be in public for essential activities such as going to the grocery store or picking up medication. Surgical masks and N-95 masks are in short supply and should be reserved for healthcare professionals.

Calaveras Public Health will continue to monitor this development and the results will be released as new information becomes available. It is expected that further cases of COVID-19 infection will be identified in Calaveras residents.

Additional resources can be found on the Calaveras Public Health website at The COVID-19 Community Service Call Center is available Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm at (209) 754-2896.

Not all. 2 were in Copper. Also, Valley Springs is the most densely populated area in Calaveras County.

COVID 19 just sucks, not us

It’s because they’re very scarcely testing anyone. I bet a ton of people have it and are unaware. It’s well known the US isn’t testing like it should be for a bunch of reasons. I know a lot of people that have all the symptoms and try to get help and rejected for not being able to identify someone that tested positive, it’s because they’re barely testing. All of the numbers are way higher but for so many reasons, they’re refusing testing.’ I even know sick Veterans that are getting withheld help or testing. I was very sick, waited until I was coughing up blood and was still refused a test calling 3 counties. It’s not anyone’s fault in particular, it’s a giant mess. Might as well point fingers at everyone everywhere. They’re seriously only testing people literally on their deathbeds sick unless like before you were a celebrity or something. Look broader, it’s affecting the whole world. Seriously guys, get it together. Sorry we live in huge counties that have close sections in some areas. We’re all lagging supplies, like Copper has no pharmacy, so Copperlonian’s * have to go somewhere else for meds, all of the counties have their downfalls. It’s not one person, it’s everything. We’re all living somewhere being affected. It’s not wise to go against each other when the picture is so much bigger. Really sad guys, I’m disappointed and yeah people can be asymptomatic or unable to get help and apparently it’s somewhat airborne and stays on surfaces way longer than initially realized, that’s the reality of it. And yeah, I’m going medical field... The whole thing is tragic, horrible, and nasty, doesn’t meant we have to be to each other. I hate it all too and I was sick sick and withheld treatment. Feels great being rejected and then having our communities collide. Please, just hope for better days. I’m not at work, don’t worry. It’s all scary, no proper way to react, we’re all scared and in shock. Please don’t hate on me, just want us coming together instead of letting it tear us apart even more. I love America and I love helping people (no, I’m not ethnocentric), but this has broken most of my beliefs, but I will not give in and be cruel or damning the wrong anything, if you’re going to damn anything, damn this illness. Thanks, best wishes, hope you don’t get sick and untreated like so many people I know. I’m typing on a tiny screen, sorry if there are errors. Just was sad, needed to vent a different perspective after seeing this.

Tests are only given if you were knowingly in contact with a person positive of covid 19. Or basically dying.

Thanks for shortening my post, well done. I said that in my long post. Again, super cool for missing the point. Maybe I wasted my time trying to shed some light on things and keep people from arguing/name calling.

Over it, not worth it or my time. Just keep fighting, missing my point of trying to clear up some confusion. Thanks for caring! Ha!

Testing does not change anything in your treatment. There is no "treatment" for COVID. Your symptoms are treated and will be treated regardless of the results of a COVID test.

    Testing changes nothing.

Thought it’d be nice if something else was put up instead of all the hate and blame above. Maybe you just wanted the last word, and yeah I was sick sick... It would’ve been nice to know, you know nothing about me, who I live with or anything surrounding me. I simply was trying to stop counties from name calling. It was merely an explanation and an aim for peace-well done you!

I applaud you trying to have the last word for no reason and I was trying to sway away to not blaming. I was so sick I thought I was going to die, I really appreciated not getting tested, super cool. Hope you and those you’re required to be around don’t have to go through my experience without treatment anyways (obviously I know that too, except I really couldn’t breathe, that could have been helped-duh). You missed the whole point. ‘You’re a total winner, so cool of you missing the entire point!’ Thanks
