District 2 Supervisor Candidate Interview with John Morse~By John Hamilton

San Andreas, CA...We had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with District Two Challenger, John Morse. John is running for the District 2 Supervisor seat against Incumbent Steve Wilensky. John was born and raised in the Sheep Ranch area and has deep roots in the county. Video Chat and Platform for John Morse enclosed....

“Nothing is ours, which another may deprive us of.” –Thomas Jefferson. I support private property rights. Our government should not be allowed to deprive us of our rights. This includes government interference in our private property rights.

Economic development means having a healthy environment for the encouragement of sustainable business and job growth that promotes the well-being and quality of life of individuals and the health of the tax base. Development of enterprise zones, removing roadblocks, and reducing red tape are actions that I support to encourage economic development.

Drugs, particularly meth, are a problem in our district. I plan to work closely with county departments, the Sheriff, as well as the Health Dept. and its related efforts, the Chamber of Commerce, and other local entities, to address this problem more closely AT ITS ROOTS.

The General Plan update will continue. The General Plan is not specific it is GENERAL. Elements of the Plan can’t be based on current theory closing doors for the future.

Jobs, or the lack thereof, are a big issue in District 2. Although the BOS and county government cannot create jobs, they can however, search for and encourage businesses that do create jobs.

Water is another issue that needs to be addressed for the entire county. A hundred years ago the miners used ditches to deliver water where it was needed. With modern technology we could use these ditches again to deliver water to our entire county."

"Born and raised in District 2, I was the last student to graduate from Sheep Ranch Elementary before it was closed. I graduated from Calaveras High in 1964, was honorably discharged after serving 4 years in the Air Force, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Service from Cal Poly in 1976. I then worked 17 years in the cannery business in management positions which included supervising 150 employees. I was responsible for personnel, production, maintenance, and 7-figured budgets. I learned a lot about fiscal responsibilities, and the importance of wise planning and placement of properly qualified people.

As a new challenge, I bought and profitably operated a mailing/shipping business for 6 years. In 1999 I sold my business and “retired,” moving back home to Sheep Ranch and planted a vineyard. I have since become an accidental machinist, and also an increasingly interested observer of our county government.

As your Supervisor I will appoint an appropriately qualified Planning Commissioner the first time around. I will seek the hiring of qualified, competent, knowledgeable people to manage our government departments. I will work to eliminate the need to pay big money to hired consultants. I will look out for and be accountable to THE PEOPLE OF DISTRICT TWO."

If you are on a Mac or having issues with the above video!

Our Video Chat with Steve Wilensky is coming up next so stay tuned.....
