Mountain Oaks Charter School Renewal Approved
San Andreas, CA...The Charter Renewal has received unanimous support from the Calaveras County Board of Education and has been renewed for a 5-year term beginning July 1, 2020. Mountain Oaks Charter School celebrated 25 years of serving students in Calaveras and adjacent counties when it opened its doors this fall. The Calaveras County Board of Education (CCBE) voted unanimously on December 16, 2019 to renew its charter. Mountain Oaks will continue its rich history of serving homeschool and independent study families for years to come. Mountain Oaks Charter School is a Tuition-Free Public School open to all residents of Calaveras County, Tuolumne County, Amador County, San Joaquin County, Stanislaus County and Alpine County. Mountain Oak’s main campus is in San Andreas with Resource Centers in Amador and Tuolumne County.
Mountain Oaks first started as a Calaveras County Office of Education (CCOE) program in the fall of 1994 with a total of sixteen students. Nine years later, Mountain Oaks was reorganized as a charter school in July of 2003. The student population increased steadily from 1994 through 2013, and currently has stabilized with a population of approximately 400 TK-12th grade students. Mountain Oaks is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Factors considered by the CCBE, prior to approval, included increases in student academic performance of Mountain Oaks student sub-groups during the last five years and the schools 25-year history in Calaveras County. The academic success of students and the longevity of the school earned Mountain Oaks the maximum 5-year term beginning July 1, 2020. Additional charter petition items included Career Technical Education (CTE) initiatives identified in the charter, the expansion of early college course offerings and the implementation of updated science and math curriculum.
