Ronald Joseph Schmid 1940 - 2019

Angels Camp, CA...On Tuesday, December 31st, Ronald Joseph Schmid, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away at the age of 79. Ron was born on October 6th, 1940 in San Francisco. He and his brother, Robert, grew up in the bay area. Ron and his family moved to San Mateo where he graduated from Serra High School and joined the military, where he served 4 years in the Marines. After serving in the military, Ron joined the Redwood City Police Department and eventually moved to Calaveras County were he served the remainder of his professional career with the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department along side his loving wife, Amy Schmid.




Ron had a passion for the community and was involved throughout his life. He and Amy were active members of the ICF at the St. Patrick’s Church in Angels Camp. Ron also loved to grow his garden every year and tend to his road side farm stand. Ron was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and could keep anyone on their toes with his sly jokes.

Ron was proceeded in death by his wife, Amy. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Mavis) Schmid; sons, Robert Schmid and Kenneth Sterrett; daughter, Debra (James) Harris; grandchildren, Anthony (Kelsey) Sterrett and Micheal Sterrett; great-granddaughter, Shyanne Sterrett; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 8th from 1pm-6pm, followed by the Rosary at 6pm at the Angels Memorial Chapel. The Mass Christian Burial will occur on Thursday, January 9th at 11am at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Angels Camp. Flowers may be sent to the Angels Memorial Chapel.
