The 3rd Annual Slush Cup Was Another Epic Success!~By Robin Duffy

Bear Valley, CA....The 3rd Annual Slush cup at Bear Valley Mountain Resort was another huge success! There were fifty snowsports enthusiasts who helped us usher out another successful season up in the mountains. Participants ranged in age from eight to seventy-two years old! We would like to thank all of our sponsors who helped make the day such an accomplishment. Our sponsors included Bear Valley Mountain Resort, the Bear Valley Lodge, Snowshoe Brewery, Gateway Press, Hatcher Winery, the Sierra Nevada.....

Adventure Company, the Bear Valley Adventure Center, The Outhouse Collection, the Bear Valley Sport Shop, Mountain Hardwear, Headwaters Coffeehouse, Turner’s Wild West, Rossignol, Pepsi, Terra Firma Fitness, Trinity Wellness, the Bear Valley General Store, Bear Valley Real Estate, Bear Valley Snowmobile, Murphy’s Day Spa, Moaning Caverns, Figaro’s Pizza, Big Trees State Park, West World Images, the Bear Valley Sheriff Station, Blooms and Things, the Bear Valley Music Festival, Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods, the Ebbetts Pass Historical Association, and Lila and Sage Bakery. Without their generous donations we would not have been able to contribute much needed funds to the Bear Valley Snowsports Education Foundation.

There were multiple categories in which athletes competed. In the Men’s Alpine Category, 12 and Under, Austin Steinhart was 1st, followed by Matthew Smith in 2nd and Hudson Harris in 3rd place. In the Women’s Alpine Category, 12 and Under, Mackenzie Comstock was 1st, followed by Sarah Pye in 2nd and Bailee Parco in 3rd. In the 13-20 age group, the Men’s Alpine category was won by Zac Comstock, who was followed by Chris Donovan in 2nd and Kyle Steinhart in 3rd. Alexis Habinger won the Women’s Alpine for ages 13-20. Beau Leavitt won the Men’s Non-Alpine for the 13-20 category. In the 21-39 age range, Men’s Alpine, Mike Schimke beat his brother Tim Schimke by a mere five hundredths of a second! Coming in third place was Patrick Caron. In the Alpine Women’s category, ages 21-39, Tawnie Lee won, followed closely by Kira Krayk and Emily Kay. In the Men’s Non-Alpine, Chris Moore was the sole participant and thus the winner. He spent the day dueling neck and neck with the 21-39 Women’s Non-Alpine winner Lauren Phillips, who was followed closely by Tiana Lagemann. The Men’s Alpine 40-54 was a tight competition, won by Nick Shawkey and followed by Paul Petersen in 2nd and Ken Habinger in 3rd Place. The Alpine Women’s, 40-54, was won by Andrea Sullivan, 2nd place went to Charisse Smith, and Vicky Johnson came in 3rd. The Men’s Alpine, 55 and Over, category was another tight competition! Mark Phillips bested Jere Foutz, with Bob Schimke coming in at a close 3rd. The day was finished with Patricia Clarey winning the Alpine Women’s, 55 and Over, category with a very respectable time.

BVMR General Manager Jim Gentling says, "The Slush Cup has become a wonderful family event. It’s amazing how competitive fathers, mothers, sons & daughters can be towards each other. I imagine that the bragging rights will continue on for days! We look forward to hosting the 4th annual Slush Cup on closing day next season with another outstanding sunny and slushy day."

Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to all our sponsors! We are already looking forward to the 4th presentation of the Slush Cup next season!
