Are not on varsity teams and do not get to participate in weekly competitions. “This tournament gives us a lot of on court experience. It’s also a wonderful opportunity that prepares us to become a varsity player,” shared sophomore Sally Klassen from Bret Harte.
Before the tournament began Bret Harte coach Tom Reiter announced players and playing rules. Because this was a novice tournament they played “Round Robin” where no two competitors competed against each other twice. Each student was given a number that was written on their hand symbolizing their position. Throughout the day the coaches would rotate the numbers making a large variety of games and competitors. They were also grouped by gender an all boys group and an all girls group.
At the end of the competition they had the top players play against each other in a final round off. Coach Dave Harris from Argonaut brought small trinkets for the kid’s including key chains and lanyards to make the playoffs more competitive. “A carrot in front of a horse,” shared Coach Dave.
Right know Bret Harte is 1st in league. Their rivals Calaveras are 3rd in league. Their next large competition is on April 22nd against Calaveras at Calaveras. Come out to support the teams.
