Robert Joseph “Bob” Cousy Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

Washington, DC...Today, President Donald J. Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Robert Joseph “Bob” Cousy. This prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, which may be awarded by the President to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

Bob Cousy is one of basketball’s all-time greatest players and an exemplary American on and off the court. During his 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics, the “Houdini of the Hardwood” led his team into legendary success including six NBA National Championships. He led the league in assists for 8 straight years, was a 13-time All-Star, and won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award in 1957. Off the court, Mr. Cousy fought racism and became a leader for racial equality in and beyond the league. He was also instrumental in the creation of the NBA Players Association. In 1971, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

As a fellow former Massachusetts resident and Holy Cross grad, I would say that Bob would be turning over in his grave. Yes, Bob was a tremendous athlete, but first and foremost he was a believer in equality and democracy. He would be appalled at all that Trump is doing today.

What a joke. Given to someone who was a champion of racial equality from the Twitter in Chief promoting racism. You're so obvious, Trump, and not fooling anyone. Shame on you for using Bob's record and good name.

I can't wait to hear the backlash from Massachusetts and the Holy Cross College community. Trump doesn't deserve to have washed Mr. Cousy's gym shorts.

Bob Cousy was the complete opposite of Trump, both in terms of racial equality but also in seeing the good in his fellow man and wanted to see people elevated. This is a travesty.

Such an obvious grab for publicity. I hate him even more for this, if it is possible.

Cousy was a class act; Trump is scum. Hopefully, the award will outlive the current Disaster in Chief.

Most of you Libtards think Cousy played for Summerville High , you wouldn't know him if he was the only person walking down Main St. In Glencoe dribbling a basketball! I talked to Bob last week, he loves TRUMP, MAGA, MAGA, MAGA,MAGA!

I know Mr. Cousy as a Holy Cross alumn and doubt you’ve seen him recently. He’s from Worcester, MA , a city Trump couldn’t pronounce during the medal ceremony, 91 years of age and suffering from dementia. Trump essentially called up a former great of feeble mind to promote his agenda. Tragic.

      Cousy's early life
Posted on: 2019-08-23 12:58:10   By: Anonymous

Cousy was the only son of poor French immigrants living in New York City. He grew up in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan's East Side, in the midst of the Great Depression.[3] His father Joseph was a cab driver, who earned extra income by moonlighting. The elder Cousy had served in the German Army during World War I. Shortly after the war, his first wife died of pneumonia, leaving behind a young daughter. He married Julie Corlet, a secretary and French teacher from Dijon.[4] At the time of the 1930 census, the family was renting an apartment in Astoria, Queens, for $50 per month. The younger Cousy spoke French for the first 5 years of his life, and started to speak English only after entering primary school.
