Moderate Injuries to Tuolumne Woman in Collision After Falling Asleep at Wheel

Tuolumne, CA...On August 1, 2019 at approximately 1:15am, 22-year-old, Arissa Helen Jones from Tuolumne, was driving alone in her 2012 Ford, northbound on Cherokee Road near Tuolumne Road at approximately 35 miles per hour. As she approached a left curve in the roadway, she fell asleep. Her vehicle traveled to the right and off the roadway. After leaving the roadway, her vehicle first collided into a tree then into a large rock. Her vehicle came to rest on a dry patch of vegetation, which subsequently caught fire.

She was able to exit her vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames. Miss Jones sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by ground ambulance to Adventist Health, Sonora for treatment. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames and no structures or property were damaged. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
