4th Annual Calaveras Follies Draws Huge Crowd to Watch Local Talent....We Have Video and We Have Pictures!~By John Hamilton
Angels Camp, CA....Hundreds of attendees packed the audience at Frogtown Saturday evening for the 2008 Annual Calaveras Follies show! This annual event was presented by the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program Volunteers, Frogtown and Murphys Creek Theatre. This is an outrageously hilarious musical review with local "Community Celebrities" as the Stars! It is always a kick every year! This year's event almost brought the audience to tears there was so much laughter. The evening started with Appetizers at 6:30pm with Showtime at 7:30pm, followed by the Frog Oscar Awards. There was also a raffle and Cast Party to enjoy. Program Director, Kathryn Eustis, always puts on this fantastic fundraiser with her hard work and dedication to our youth. The Calaveras Follies is the major fundraiser for the Calaveras Youth....
Mentoring Program.
There were numerous sponsors who contributed funds to the fundraiser and also generous raffle donors for the prizes.
You may have recognized many people from our community up on stage this year including...
Madaline Krska of Calaveras County Offices, Mary Jane Genochio of Calaveras County Arts Council, Kathy Mazzaferro of Wells Fargo Bank and also a District 2 Supervisor Candidate and John Brophy Superindentent of Schools. Plus many more!
The audience spent their evening laughing, cheering and supporting their hardworking friends and neighbors on stage. Each volunteer personally contributes dozens of hours to the evenings success.
Terri Wilson, was the Artistic Director for her 4th year. She has been involved in the theatre community since the late 1980's. Terri has appeared in numerous productions as an actor in Calaveras and Tuolume Counties. She is also co-founder and former board member of Murphys Creek Theatre.
Marian Coahran, Follies Producer also spends countless hours getting ready for this production.
Next years Follies is set for April 18th, 2009. Perhaps next year you will join their cast to support your very own Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. Commemorative DVD's are also available.
