Wright's Creek Prescribed Burn to Begin on 4/21/08
On April 21, 2008 the Mi-Wok Ranger District, Stanislaus National Forest, will begin the 400 acre Wright's Creek prescribed burn project, located approximately 4 miles south of Long Barn in the Tuolumne River drainage near Fahey Meadow, and north of Marble Mountain. Over a five day period, approximately 400 acres will be treated with low intensity fire, depending on conditions. Smoke will be visible in the area, and from Highway 108....
with some down canyon drift in the evening and early morning. The purpose
of the project is to reduce the buildup of flammable forest fuels, both ground fuels and ladder fuels. Specifically, the project will help to protect Forest plantation units and improve deer habitat by reducing the buildup of vegetation in the understory.
Additionally, the project will improve overall forest health, reduce flammable fuels, and provide protection to the public and firefighters.
