Gloria Vanderbilt Has Passed Away at 95

New York, NY..."Gloria Laura Vanderbilt (February 20, 1924 – June 17, 2019) was an American artist, author, actress, fashion designer, heiress, and socialite. She was a member of the Vanderbilt family of New York and the mother of CNN television anchor Anderson Cooper. During the 1930s she was the subject of a high-profile child custody trial in which her mother, Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt, and her paternal aunt, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, each sought custody of her and control over her trust fund. Called the "trial of the century" by the press, the court proceedings were the subject of wide and sensational press coverage due to the wealth and prominence of the involved parties, and the scandalous evidence presented to support Whitney's claim that Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt was an unfit parent.

As an adult in the 1970s, Vanderbilt became known in connection with a line of fashions, perfumes, and household goods bearing her name. She was particularly noted as an early developer of designer blue jeans. 1974 saw the release of the Paul McCartney single "Mrs. Vandebilt," inspired by, and loosely based on the life of Gloria."

I believe she's a direct descendant of the great railroad company owner Cornelius Vanderbilt. History will tell you that the railroads played a great role in the mid and late 1800's especially with the development of the great western movement, i.e., the transcontinental railroad completed in 1869 in the month of May-150 years ago.

Seems like nothing has changed in regards to scandals and the press.

If you know your U.S. History she is still a descendant of the Cornelius Vanderbildt legacy-the great railroad builder of the 19th century. He created the New York Central railroad (and maybe some other east coast lines) and that spread as far west as Chicago and still there as freight lines and own most of the tracks where the current Amtrak trains run. I think the NYC was one of the very first railroads in the United States-pre Civil War at that-maybe in the 1830's or 40's?
