San Andreas Structure Fire & Live Power Lines Fell Across Hwy 49 This Morning~By John Hamilton Updated with Video

San Andreas, CA...There was a fire this morning at Hwy 49 and Pool Station Road possibly due to downed PG&E wires. The Little Miner 49'er Preschool was damaged in the fire. Hwy 49 was closed for about 1/2 hour this morning but is now re-opened. Speculation is that the fire may have been caused by a heater in the interior of the structure igniting due to the power fluctuations from the PG&E line that arched. Luckily there was nobody inside. When we spoke with Fire Personnel on scene...

they mentioned the fire damage to the structure was minor. Smoke damage however to contents and interior was fairly extensive. They are unsure how the PG&E power line was damaged.

We saw 6-7 engines and a water tender or two. We saw equipment and personal on scene from San Andreas, Foothill, Central, Calaveras County and even Copperopolis had men and equipment in San Andreas.

We would also like thank CHP Officer Mike Lowry for giving us his initial observations.

This is just initial onscene information. We will try and provide you the complete fire report when it becomes available.
