Defense Secretary James Mattis Plans to Retire in Februray

Washington, DC...Dear Mr. President: I have been privileged to serve as our country's 26th Secretary of Defense which has allowed me to serve alongside our men and women of the Department in defense of our citizens and our ideals. I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past two years on some of the key goals articulated in our National Defense Strategy: putting the Department on a more sound budgetary footing, improving readiness and lethality in our forces, and reforming the Department's business practices for greater performance. Our troops continue to provide the capabilities needed to prevail in conflict and sustain strong U.S. global influence.

One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies. Like you, I have said from the beginning that the armed forces of the United States should not be the policeman of the world. Instead, we must use all tools of American power to provide for the common defense, including providing effective leadership to our alliances. NATO's 29 democracies demonstrated that strength in their commitment to fighting alongside us following the 9-11 attack on America. The Defeat-ISIS coalition of 74 nations is further proof.

Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model—gaining veto authority over other nations' economic, diplomatic, and security decisions — to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense.

My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades of immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances.

Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position. The end date for my tenure is February 28, 2019, a date that should allow sufficient time for a successor to be nominated and confirmed as well as to make sure the Department's interests are properly articulated and protected at upcoming events to include Congressional posture hearings and the NATO Defense Ministerial meeting in February. Further, that a full transition to a new Secretary of Defense occurs well in advance of the transition of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in September in order to ensure stability within the Department

I pledge my full effort to a smooth transition that ensures the needs and interests of the 2.15 million Service Members and 732,079 DoD civilians receive undistracted attention of the Department at all times so that they can fulfill their critical, round-the-clock mission to protect the American people.

I very much appreciate this opportunity to serve the nation and our men and women in uniform.

F--k the tie. Trump just showed his true colors and turned Syria over to Russia and Iran. And as I write this he has just surrendered to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

And to headline this as "retirement", Mr. pinetree.net, is utterly fake news....Mattis resigned in protest. Gen Mattis is gone. Gen Kelly is gone. Gen McMaster is gone. Trump once called them "my great generals" God help the United States of America. At this rate we all better learn Russian really fast. Remember the most important word in Russian is Spas-see-bo ("Thank you")

        Heaven has Walls!
If those who call themselves Christians will just read their Bibles it plainly states Heaven does indeed have Walls in the New Jerusalem. The Walls are so high they cannot be seen over and so thick nobody can dig through and there are 12 Gates.
Do those opposing The Border Wall believe they will get into The New Jerusalem in Heaven if they are not Legal Citizens? The Scriptures plainly state that you must be a Legal Citizen in order to enter Heaven. It is all right there in The Scriptures presented in many ways and wordings but the message is still the same. No illegals!!
There is a Wall around The New City to protect The Citizens. Imagine that built in protection. So what should be different between a Heaven the Christians believe in and our Nation?
If you call yourself a Christian and you claim you follow Christian values then you must admit "Heaven Has Walls". So if your Heaven has Walls why do you protest a Secure Border Wall here upon Earth that functions much the same way as The Wall around The New City in your concept of Heaven as lined out in your Bible.
Food for thought. Truth. The Pill everybody wants but many refuse to swallow.

The good thing about walls is that they are a great place for Humpty Dumpty's like you to perch upon and then fall. (And nobody could HD together again.)

Fortunately for you the wall is never going to get built.

      About Afghanistan:
We never belonged there. The only real reasons we have been there since the earliest of days was for the precious metals and the CIA Opium Supply. Follow the Money Trails backwards. Thousands injured or dead for the Globalist Bankers!! Trump is right bring them home!! Only the globalists are the ones crying about our troops coming home. Real Americans are saying "it is about damn time!!"

That is first class poppycock. We went to Afghanistan because of the following

        Abdullah Azzam
        Atiyah Abd al-Rahman
and their sponsors, the Afghani Taliban

And their followers that killed 3000 Americans on 9/11
        Mohamed Atta
        Abdulaziz al-Omari

      About the Syria Withdrawal!
I find it hard to believe anybody would not be happy about our Troops finally being with drawn not only from Syria but now Afghanistan too.
What the hell is wrong with people who want to see our Troops being told to stay there, still taking fire and potential casualties and for what to remain the Puppet Police Force of the Globalists and NATO?
My next question is who amongst these politicians and major business owners are going to be losing kick backs, money in contracts and others entitlements by our President with drawing our Troops? Just look and research who is screaming the loudest then check their connections and follow the money trails backwards.
This is the most pointed question all of us can ask on any group or page across all of Social Media!!
The other question we can ask those wanting our Troops to remain is "How long do you think we should sacrifice their lives needlessly for somebody elses agenda?"
I personally stand with our President in this Troop With Draw move as we really do not belong over there, let NATO go fight it's own Police Actions and let's stop interfering in Foreign affairs we do not belong in.
      America first and foremost always.

Walls do not work is the Leftist's claim?
Walls worked pretty well in Roman times, Biblical times and others times how about that Great Wall of China keeping the Mongols at bay for thousands of years. Don't forget the Berlin Wall. How about those Prison Walls? Ya they do not work. Oh I forgot those Walls around a lot of Homes around us. Ya ya ya Walls don't work so how about we ban them and while we are at it all Doors on Houses too as those are a type of Wall to protect you so we cannot have that. Excuse the obvious snark but in reality the logic of the Left is as full of holes as a Colander for draining Water from Food.

How come Congress can give Mexico and South America 10 Billion to deter Illegal Immigrants but cannot give the Wall the 5 Billion it needs? Isn't that just another case of throwing Money at something in hopes it fixes it? At least with the Wall we all have something we see for the Money. With the anti Illegal Immigrant Money after it gets into the hands of those Governments there is no guaranteed return. Just stating the obvious.

Calling it his “retirement” was Trump’s spin on the event AFTER Mattis gave his letter of resignation.
