34 Year Old Sonora Woman Loses Her Life in Logging Truck vs Vehicle Collision

Sonora, CA...On Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at approximately 7:05 am, 25 year old Wallace resident, Tyler Hughes, was driving a loaded logging truck, eastbound on State Route 108 approaching Stockton Street. A 34 year old Sonora resident was driving a 1996 Honda Civic, eastbound on State Route 108, ahead of Hughes. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Civic drove onto the right shoulder and immediately initiated a U-turn directly into Hughes path. Subsequently, the front of the logging truck struck the left side of the Civic.

The driver of the Civic was properly restrained but tragically sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. Hughes was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries.

Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The collision is still under investigation.

Another life taken too early

What would ever cause a person to do that we'll probably never know. What a shame, such a young filly to lose her life.

Condolences to the family and friends

Sad . Sounds like the driver made a tragic mistake. Let’s keep your eyes on the road. Slow down a touch.

Did u just try and say it was the loggibg trucks fault. From what I have read I see in no way shape or form it was his fault. Pray for him because he is probably blaming himself when there is no need too.

Rest In Peace... She was such a sweet kid growing up. Prayers for her family and her babies. Prayers also for the truck driver. I can’t imagine the pain this family is going through.

Loggers suck. They go against gods will. All plants and animals to share. No one has the right to take the way spi does. Ever seen a log truck with a how am I driving sticker. They need to be regulated. Ridiculously slow loaded horribly fast unloaded. And letting them drive parrots ferry rd is a perfect example of their clout. Red emerson is diablo. Ps sorry for all involved in this tragedy it will repeat until the trucks drive themselves. Ps loggers are legally allowed to use cell and drive?

If you think self driving trucks are gonna be safer, just wait to see the carnage they leave. The only reason for them and other self driving vehicles is so employers wont have to pay drivers not safety.

You gotta also consider the fact those trucks can't stop on a dime. Sounds like a quick decision this lady made by making that U turn as per what the report stated. Both parties needed to drive safe

Ditto! Yes it's terrible what happened, but people have to practice safe driving. You just can't make a U turn like that "on a dime" especially a busy road like that.
