Awards in The 11th Annual High School Art Show...ArtSpirit 2008

San Andreas, CA....Following up a call for artists in the Calaveras County Arts Council’s 11th annual ArtSpirit Show, 131 high school students from four high schools entered a total of 200 works in eleven categories. Cash awards of $10 for First Prize, $5 for Second Prize, and Third Place ribbons were given in each category. Additionally, a $20 Popular Choice Award will be presented after the April 17 closing of the exhibit, which is open to the public at 22 Main Street in San Andreas. Here are the results....

Judges included Ed Cline, Maren Sampson, Mary Jane Genochio, Sharon Daniels, Anne Dasch, Bev Goldie, Rod Hanchett and Ken Winebrenner. Teachers who helped facilitate the gathering of art are Mark Waelty from Bret Harte; Donna Guadagni, Suzanne Smith, Roger Salter, from Calaveras High; Underwriting the expenses of the show is an Endowment for Youth grant from the Thrift Store of Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The ArtSpirit exhibit continues in the Gallery of the Calaveras County Arts Council until April 17. A few of the artworks are for sale. Hours are weekdays, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm., and Saturdays, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. For more information, phone the Arts Council at (209)754-1774.
