The MythBusters Were Back in Town....Today!~By John Hamilton

Jenny Lind, CA....The MythBusters are making their 5th appearance in Calaveras County to film an upcoming episode. Today's Myth involves testing some scenes from the Caddyshack movies about explosives and gophers. They had us swear a vow of secrecy to protect the outcome of the MythBusting. One of the other reasons we made the trip out to Jenny Lind were they where filming this morning, was to chat with Calaveras County OES Chief, Clay Hawkins about the visit from the MythBuster's Team. Many of you may not know that...

we have one of the best Bomb and Hazmat Teams in the Nation right here in the county. The Calaveras County Bomb & Hazmat Team is the responding agency for all of our local counties and is the mutual aid partner for Stanislaus County.

The MythBuster episodes offer them a great way to train and plan for real events. The shows producers provide all of the explosives and covers their costs. The county's explosive experts manage the event in the same methodical, planned, multi-agency approach they use in their day to day work.

Captain Hawkins was gracious enough to talk us through how they handle a typical incident. They have an impressive array of equipment they can use. On site lab & testing equipment, remote robotic xray and detonation equipment, extensive hazmant capabilities and more.

Captain Hawkins will also be letting us have a copy of their annual incident report. They handle some very interesting cases. Last year they handled 25 explosive cases in their coverage area.

In the video below Captain Hawkins covers the planning and operations for today's MythBusters episode.
