Sarah Lunsford Has Joined the Race For Calaveras County Supervisor for District 4

Calaveras County, CA...Sarah Lunsford of Murphys has joined the race for Calaveras County Supervisor District 4. She will be running against longtime Supervisor, Tom Tryon, new candidates Lee Seaton and Ron Klass. Ms. Lunsford chose to make Calaveras County her home 11 years ago when she moved to Murphys, but she was not unfamiliar with the area. The first time she visited the area she was 13 year old. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in English Literature before going to study law for a year at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She chose to move on from her studies in law and began working as a Sales Administrator in Silicon Valley.....

She moved to Murphys in 1997 and began covering the Board of Supervisors as a political reporter in 1999, first with the Calaveras edition of the Ledger Dispatch then the Calaveras Enterprise. More recently, she has worked as a contributor with thepinetree.net. Political reporting has given her a greater appreciation of the political process and how it affects each person.

Coupled with her political reporting experience, Ms. Lunsford worked as a Field Representative to Calaveras County for two State Assemblymen, Tim Leslie, and Dave Cogdill. In this position, she kept the Assemblymen informed about local issues and became a point person for local people to communicate with their state representatives.

Sitting in the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors meetings, then working as a Field Representative has given her a broad viewpoint of issues such as growth, the economy and how governmental decision on both a local, state, and federal level, affect local people.

“It always amazes me how politics affects our everyday lives whether we realize it or not,” she said before pointing out a personal example of this. In the late 90’s when the HMO’s pulled out of Calaveras County because of federal legislation, her own family like many others was left paying a higher cost for health care.

Ms. Lunsford began serving on the Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District Board five years ago. She is now chair of the board that has made a focus of building veterans memorials on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor.

She believes a listening ear and a balanced, objective view on issues is the best way to serve as an elected official.

“I look forward to meeting with the people of District 4 and hearing what they have to say. I also look forward to the honor of serving as their representative on the Board of Supervisors,” she said
