Bret Harte to Celebrate their 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Class

Angels Camp, CA...Bret Harte High School is delighted to celebrate 19 individuals and one team as the first induction class in the Bret Harte Athletic Hall of Fame. Induction will take place during “Hall of Fame Weekend” scheduled for Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29, 2018. Inductees will be introduced at the home football game before varsity takes on Sonora High School on Friday, September 28. Inductees will be honored at the Inaugural Induction Ceremony the evening of Saturday, September 29 at Mark Twain Hall, Calaveras County Fairgrounds. Long time Bret Harte coach, Harold Clements, will be one of the inductees honored. Coach Clements started his teaching and coaching career at Bret Harte in 1968. Immediately upon his arrival, he began coaching football and track. During his 22-year tenure coaching football from 1968-1990, he led his program to 110 wins, five MLL championships and three section runner-up titles in 1978, 1986 and 1987. In 1979, Clements led his football team to a section championship. During Clements’ tenure coaching track, he led his teams to 55 MLL championships and two section championships.

Before Bret Harte, Coach Clements attended the University of Denver from 1959-60, Arizona State College in 1962 and San Jose State from 1962-1967, where he obtained his BA in physical education. In high school, Clements won all-state honors in football and track in Iowa.

The Clements’ home was the “spot” for players to eat and relax before the game. Over his many years at Bret Harte, Coach Clements positively influenced and inspired at least 1,000 young lives either in the classroom or on the field.

Along with Coach Clements, the inaugural induction class includes:
Melvin Nayden, Class of 1951
Ray Barnett, Class of 1957
Archie Barnett, Class of 1961
Mike Lewis, Class of 1964
Richard Cathcart, Class of 1967
Hal Dillashaw, Class of 1975
Mary Harper, Class of 1984
James Hecker, Class of 1985
Dawn Miner Carroll, Class of 1989
Tanya Dooley Ehlert, Class of 1990
Brian Singleton, Class of 1991
Kellie Cathcart Taylor, Class of 1993
Anthony Eberhardt, Class of 1993
Amy Pimentel Allaire, Class of 1994
Brian Barnett, Class of 1997
Becca Bales Kane, Class of 2000
Harold Clements, Coach
Anthony O’Geen, Coach

1988 and 1989 Girls Cross Country Teams, lead by Head Coach Anthony O'Geen

Athletic Hall of Fame individual inductees were considered primarily on their achievements as high school student athletes and coaches at Bret Harte. Character values, during and after their high school years, are a major consideration.
Dinner tickets are $30.00 and are currently on sale. Tickets may be purchased weekdays in the school office between 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, or anytime online at https://m.bpt.me/event/3499830.

Coach Clem thank you for all the tireless hours over the years you spent helping students be the best they could be, not only on the field but in life. You took time out of your life to drive/fly out to colleges on your own dime to help us have a better future. Your example and class is will never be forgotten.

Does Bret Harte have an Academic Hall of Fame too? It would be nice to see some lasting recognition of students who achieve academically. Maybe recognize students who leverage their academic achievements at Bret Harte into successful college careers and lives.

Tom Hickman was the best quarterback BH has ever taken the field . Others might have records or better stats but there is much more than stats.Tom kept us together when down and was magical on the field.Huge oversight not having him on this list
