On the Officer Involved Shooting of John James Corrigan ~ By Katie Greer

Mountain Ranch, CA...This is regarding the officer involved shooting in Calaveras county on 7/5/18. I would like to share facts that the Sheriff's department left out of their statement and clear up some FALSE information they publicized to everyone: First I would like to publicly apologize to the officers involved for the position John put you in. I can not even imagine what you went and are going through. And your families. I would like to commend you for doing your job, as I respect your position and doing what you were trained to do in that situation.

With that being said, to the author of Calaveras Sheriffs department social media press release. Was it necessary for you to portray John as a monster who was out to hurt someone, now that the facts are known? Yes, John was a sex offender. Who served his time 14 years ago (when he did it) and never re offended, never had another allegation or failed an inspection while on probation.

No, I am not defending John's choices just stating the facts. Yes, I know it's public knowledge but let's be real, it's irrelevant to this situation (and to the community members as he registered and followed the rules regarding that matter). You are feeding into the county hate. Yes, people can Google it and find him but again let's be real the community was wanting to know about this situation and most aren't going to put that much time into a situation that doesn't involve people they know.

Why not just state the facts pertaining to 7/5/18 incident. Which was an obvious suicide by cop.( As I told your lead Sargenet earlier on 7/6/18 before the release. John had made several threats and attempts of suicide in the past. I also informed him John was having mental health problems and had not been in a healthy state of mind. He was extremely drepressed.) And yes, I said obvious suicide by cop because it was an air soft gun according to your press release.

Now that the facts are known even if he did shoot it, it wasn't going to do much but break a window or give you one hell of a bruise. If he was really out to "hurt" someone wouldn't you think he could have grabbed one of the real guns he had that was locked up but available to him at his house? So again I ask was it necessary to add irrelevant information? Why not leave his grieving family with some pride?

Secondly to clarify, Calaveras Sheriff listed a 1126 Rape charge, that is FALSE information and defamation of character. This charge was involving the 288 case. It had to be dropped due to failure of evidence as the victim consented. And if not please let me know when this happened so I can follow up with THE FACTS of that case. As I did when I sat in that court room and heard all the facts regarding the 288 (lewd and lascivious act) case. If you want to know more details I would love to share and if not don't judge or share false information please. I do not condone John's choices in anyway but he was still the Father of my daughter. Who he loved with all his heart and would do anything to protect.

Thirdly, I have lived in the Amador and Calaveras counties for 17 years and have loved every moment of it. I love the way when there's a disaster everyone jumps into help in a blink of an eye. I too have helped. I love the fact that I know if I break down someone I know or who knows someone I know stops to help. I too have stopped. How we all bicker and give a hard time to our neighbors. Yet still there when needed. I have a pretty reputable reputation and have been an active community member for 17 years. So has my daughter, who has lived here her whole life.

However, with that being said I am truly heartbroken by the ugliness and hateful opinions I have read and worse yet my daughter has read by strangers, neighbors, community members, board members, her friends family members and so on about her father. So the next time there a situation like this and you want to post some mean or hurtful opinion when u don't know the story (or even the person) please stop yourself, and remember we are all inner twinned in these small communities in some way. And when it's a loss, it's a loss to another community member who is looking for support and love not hatred and cruelty. I hope we can continue to love each other and remember we all know someone who knows or is related to "that" person.

Lastly, Thank you for your time and please share some of the truth. John was not a bad person he was a father, brother and son to a family who is grieving from another bad choice of his. He can't hear the words you speak but his family can.

Thank you for writing this. I, too, was unhappy with the initial reporting. His past had very little relevance to what happened last week and it was low of the sherrif's department to further vilify someone to further justify their actions. The ugly, heartless comments made by the 'regular' spineless trolls that lurk this site were truly deplorable. Please nevermind those mouth breathers. All they crave is attention and since they're too terrible of a meatbag to exist meaningfully in the real world, they seek it out by being ugly behind the anonymous mask of a computer screen. Think about it, if their names were attached they wouldn't have any of the courage they tell themselves they do. Not worth the time. I hope you and your family find peace and comfort in the time to come, sorry for your loss. On a closing note, I'd really like everyone to be vigilant and aware of mental health issues as they arise, not only for ourselves but for those we're close to. It's tricky with sometimes subtle symptoms but we have to care for our minds no less than our physical health. If you notice something, ask something, say something. Get help. Suicide only passes the pain on to others, if you need help, it's out there. 1-800-273-8255

You do realize that you probably agree with those conservatives on 80 - 90% of the time. Labels are just labels. Study after study shows that we all overwhelmingly wand the same things for ourselves and our families. CNN,, MSNBC & Fox only get ratings through drama and the fake fights.

The politicians only get contributions if there is a "problem" to solve.

you point any fire arm looking device at any officer(s) and fail to comply with orders you are going to be or should be shot. good grief he failed to comply. what do you suggest milk and xanax? hey he made the choice. he knew what he was doing. obviously he did not care about his own life nor that of others in this issue. he got what he wanted. there is no reason to tell anybody how they should feel. people have values and morals of their own so they need not have you tell them how they should be feeling. get over it, move on and learn from it. don't put yourself where this person did. on the wrong end and side of the law. your crying will not bring back the dead. they know nothing now nor can speak to you from the grave. dead is dead.

    Ecclesiastes 8:10
Then too, I saw the burial of the wicked who had come and gone from the holy place and were praised in the city where they had done so. This too is futile.

Nicely written Katie and I'm so sorry for your daughter (to read the hate) and your loss.
After searching through all the damn Ads on here I finally found the article. I do know if they didn't write about prior arrest, then the Pinetree Imbeciles would of really been going off. As for the comments after all is said and done.... the pinetree deleted all the comments.
I do remember some of the pintree experts on everything, that those nitwits, saying law enforcement were trigger happy. These buffoons commenting just can't grasp that it's dark, a weapon with a laser is pointed at you, that one has no idea it's an airgun. They folks have to be pretty damn dense or simply mentally retarded to not grasp the dangers these officers believed they were in.

Again, sorry for your loss and your ex thinking that this was his only alternative.

Calaveras talks a good story about caring for and being there for one another but the sad reality is we have become a very divided community. I no longer believe many actually care outside of their own limited interests and world view. Many no longer even know their neighbors. Guess like anywhere else, things are changing. I do want to say that I am sorry that your son, father, friend was not able to find help in his time of need or was not able to overcome the prejudice of others for which he paid the price and demons within himself. If we cannot learn from past mistakes and try to make amends, what's the whole point of incarceration, parole and probation? Also recognize there are many who post on the Pine Tree who obviously have very small lives themselves and project their disappointments if not out right hatred. May you and your family in time find some comfort in his effort to turn his life around and more happy memories.

There are many Calaveras families who have a member or two "out there" acting in ways in which most believe they were not raised. The hope of all is that they will get past whatever has derailed them and understand they are loved and accepted. But for the grace of God, there go I people. Imagine if he was one of your own and understand how your words sting if not scar.

You don't think we've all tried alerting john to this problem? I gave up that is why I feel john Hamilton gets off on reading the disgusting, racist, xenophobic, derogatory, sexist, antisemitic social profiling comments made. I could keep going, he selectively chooses certain pieces to have open forums. It's obvious. If one values freedom of speech there should be no "picking and choosing" either allow it or don't. All it does is show his moral values and beliefs that well, don't look so good. The conclusion is an easy one, common sense is useful with sensitive material and information. He is aware but plainly doesn't care.

Felons are not allowed guns. You say he had more at home? Then you are an enabler if you knew that and you knew his state of mind.

So, he was not good enough to be "husband"? But good enough to be sperm donor?

Anyone can reproduce. Takes courage and dedication to be a father.

Anyway you take it, he was a dirtbag. Don't blame the cops for his rotten choices. Now he is dead. Good riddance. The rest of the community can now move on in a slightly more peaceful manner.

Did you even read her post? She gave far more credit to the cops then I would have. Where are we as a society that suicide by cop is an option? As in, why are they trained to escalate instead of de-escalate? I digress, her only complaint ragrding the cops was with the sheriff’s press release. Read, think, then type if you really need to; try not to forget the first two steps.

After reading what was written above, and reading a few comments, then I got thos this one. THANK YOU to the Sheriff's department and the CHP for doing the right thing.

When a felon points a gun at cops, and refuses to obey orders to stand down, what do you think is going to happen?

I applaud the law enforcement actions, and especially those of the responding officers. Thank you for unplugging this loser from the gene pool.

As the comment above pointed out, why did a FELON have access to guns? Felons are not allowed access to guns, ammo, etc. This guy was a loser, plain and simple. Despite the fact he was the sperm donor for your daughter (you have lousy taste in men), he was in fact, a loser.

    Agreed- Good riddance.

Like alcohol? You know alcohol is a drug, right? You know alcohol kills more people then those other "drugs" that you don't use. But just how much do you gulp down?

Most are constitant. They get drunk in the morning then, stoned in the afternoon. Usually die before 60. Where do you fall in place??

These nut trolls truly have nothing better to do, then judge others. Then have the nerve to write biblical quotes. News flash, no true Christian ever talks like this. So you'll be burning in flames, enjoy hell hypocrite bastards. You've proven a point with the nasty remarks, so keep proving to be peice of crap wastes of human life, it looks good on you. And anonymous no doubt. Write your names for once, tough guys and gals?

To the family I apologize for this behavior of others, talk is big but little balls. It's horrible what you're all going through, from the officer to the family ect.

More families ripped apart up here by alcohol than marijuana. You are very confused.

Get off social media and work as the matriarch you should be, to lead your family to a law abiding life.

My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your son. Katie wrote a beautiful message - deeply meaningful regarding mental health and firearms - I'm sorry some do not hear it and spew their hatefulness. Many are suffering now, including the law enforcement officers. I hope you all find peace.
