Active Shooter Drill Yesterday Helped Local First Responders & Organizations Plan...Just in Case
Sonora, CA...Adventist Health Sonora, along with partners throughout Tuolumne County, participated in the 2017 California Statewide Medical and Health Exercise (SWMHE) on Thursday, November 16 at Adventist Health Sonora’s main campus. This full scale exercise was based on a hospital campus active shooter scenario helped our community to be better prepared for emergencies and incidents of all types and sizes.
This exercise included participants from:
Adventist Health Sonora
Cal Fire
California Highway Patrol
Sonora Fire Department
Sonora Police Department
Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians
Tuolumne County Ambulance
Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services
Tuolumne County Public Health
Tuolumne County Sheriff
These local agencies had spent the last several months planning this drill to train first responders and hospital staff in how to react in the event of an active shooter threat on the main hospital campus. They will exercise their capabilities, resources, and teamwork in the face of an active shooter incident.
About the drill:
This exercise is part of the SWMHE that is led annually by the California Department of Public Health and the Emergency Medical Services Authority. This exercise has been developed to encourage community emergency management stakeholders to exercise their response to and recovery from unusual incidents and events that may challenge their facilities and personnel, including natural disasters, pandemics, and acts of terrorism. Local, regional and state agencies as well as private healthcare providers across California are participating in this exercise. More information on the SWMHE can be found at www.californiamedicalhealthexercise.com.
