US Navy Identifies One Dead, Nine Missing USS John S. McCain Sailors

CHANGI NAVAL BASE, Republic of Singapore (NNS) -- After more than 80 hours of multinational search efforts, the U.S. Navy suspended search and rescue efforts for missing USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) Sailors in an approximately 2,100-square mile area east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. Ten Sailors went missing following a collision between the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer and the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel Alnic MC Aug. 21.

Damage to the portside is visible as the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) steers towards Changi Naval Base, Republic of Singapore, following a collision with the merchant vessel Alnic MC while underway east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. Significant damage to the hull resulted in flooding to nearby compartments, including crew berthing, machinery, and communications rooms. Damage control efforts by the crew halted further flooding. The incident will be investigated. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Joshua Fulton/Released)

U.S. Navy and Marine Corps divers will continue search and recovery efforts inside flooded compartments in the ship for the missing Sailors.

The divers recovered the remains of one Sailor, confirmed as Electronics Technician 3rd Class Kenneth Aaron Smith, 22, from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Still missing are:

- Electronics Technician 1st Class Charles Nathan Findley, 31, from Kansas City, Missouri

- Interior Communications Electrician 1st Class Abraham Lopez, 39, from Texas

- Electronics Technician 2nd Class Kevin Sayer Bushell, 26, from Maryland

- Electronics Technician 2nd Class Jacob Daniel Drake, 21, from Ohio

- Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Timothy Thomas Eckels Jr., 23, from Maryland

- Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Corey George Ingram, 28, from New York

- Electronics Technician 3rd Class Dustin Louis Doyon, 26, from Connecticut

- Electronics Technician 3rd Class John Henry Hoagland III, 20, from Texas

- Interior Communications Electrician 3rd Class Logan Stephen Palmer, 23, from Illinois

Multinational search efforts included ships and aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Navy, Singapore Air Force, Singapore Maritime Port Authority, Singapore Police Coast Guard, Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Indonesian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force.

The incident is under investigation to determine the facts and circumstances of the collision.

I'm sorry for the injuries and loss of our patriotic sailors, but considering the ship was named USS John S. McCain, it was a bad omen.
McCain couldn't complete a mission without taking a disastrous hit.

If this would have happened last year Trump would have been blaming it all on Obama.

I served as a Electronic Tech. Must have been hit right in the berthing compartment. Damn, not good. My heart goes out to their families.

"Lord, here my prayer,
send your angels,
to guard well, we sailors,
serving in your fleet,
protect us from harm or defeat,
give us guidance and wisdom,
to pursue diplomacy, instead of war,
peace, instead of hatred,
life, over death,
when I die, permit me appear first,
at your gate,
allow the devil, to think, I'm late,
and, before he realizes his mistake,
grant me entrance, and assign me to serve,
life eternal, in your heavenly flee"
From a sailor's wife.

This accident and the other one last year are similar. Apparently, nobody is monitoring the high-tech radar equipment all of these ships have. You can bet that all of these sailors have had their sensitivity, LGBT and workplace violence training sessions. The priorities that made this country great have fallen by the way side and political correctness has become more important. We will see a return to greatness in the days ahead. There are many roadblocks and potholes that need to be fixed along the way. President Trump is a good start!

We should all be honored to have a leader of Mr. Trumps stature. Once he weeds out the losers, this country will be great once again. Just build that dam wall and we'll be on our way. Sure he will get a second term to finish what took so long. Taking a while to eliminate the weak minded.
