Ian Graham Renner M.D., 79, Died Peacefully on July 19th, 2017 of Complications from Prostate Cancer.

Murphys, CA...Ian was born on June 26th, 1938 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He was the loving son of Frederick Renner and Ruth Dear – Renner. Ian was an internationally renowned gastroenterologist and an accomplished scholar. After completing undergraduate studies in physics and mathematics at Christchurch University in Christchurch, New Zealand, he went on to obtain a medical degree from Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand. Upon completing a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology, he dedicated both his clinical and research efforts to the development and advancement of complex endoscopic procedures to treat diseases of the liver and pancreas, with a particular interest in the treatment of cancer.

This work has been widely published and laid the foundation for future generations of physicians and surgeons. In 1977 he accepted a faculty position at the University of Southern California, School of Medicine where he trained numerous young physicians in the complex endoscopic procedures of which he was instrumental in developing.

Beyond his accomplishments in medicine and research, Ian will be remembered for his gifted intellect, his love of reading, and love for his Vineyard in Vallecito, which he lovingly called Canterbury Vineyards after his home in New Zealand. More lasting, however, will be the memories of his many friends and family members who will recall the uniqueness of his personality and the love he showered upon all he cared for. As he said so many times after leaving a long day in the clinic, “I am off…” Now he is truly off and we all will miss him.

Ian is survived by his wife Diane, his son Ashly Ian Renner, stepson Travis Gray Bardsley and grandchildren Isaac, Mia, Lua, and Ellis.

There will be a Celebration of his life on Saturday, August 12, at 5:00 pm at Canterbury Vineyards, contact the Renner Winery for details and directions.
