Calaveras Cannabis Alliance Donates Vehicle To Meals-on-Wheels

San Andreas, CA...In October, a Meals-on-Wheels driver was heading to Arnold to deliver meals to vulnerable home-bound clients. As the driver was going through the intersection of Hwy 49 & Hwy 4 he was involved in a collision with the City of Angels Police Department during a high-speed chase. The delivery vehicle was Common Ground Senior Services’ only four-wheel drive vehicle, and necessary to ensuring that those above the snow line received their meals. The vehicle was totaled, leaving the agency with no way to deliver meals during stormy weather. Not only did the insurance company total the vehicle, they only gave the agency ½ the amount Common Ground had paid for the vehicle just ten months earlier.

After numerous attempts with insurance agencies and the City of Angels proved futile in the attempt to obtain another vehicle, the agency put out an appeal to the community and received numerous offers of vehicles that needed to have major repair work done. Recently, Common Ground was contacted by the Calaveras Cannabis Alliance informing us that Beth Wittke, a member, brought the idea to CCA of the vehicle donation and that a 2011 Toyota was ready to be delivered to the agency within the next couple of days. The agency was informed that there were 27 farms, two business members, and five supporters that all "helped" donate the vehicle.

Common Ground would not only like to thank CCA for the donated vehicle, but also the Fire Departments that assisted with delivering meals to those home-bound clients in higher elevations during the winter storms.

Since their inception, the Calaveras Cannabis Alliance has been dedicated to reaching out to those in need in our community & caring for our county. In just 16 short months, CCA has managed to help numerous agencies throughout Calaveras County with over $50,000 in cash, garden supplies and volunteer time for various park and clean-up projects, support of school activities, along with a new freezer stocked with meat for the Mt Ranch Food Bank.
