Calaveras Cannabis Alliance Donates Vehicle To Meals-on-Wheels

San Andreas, CA...In October, a Meals-on-Wheels driver was heading to Arnold to deliver meals to vulnerable home-bound clients. As the driver was going through the intersection of Hwy 49 & Hwy 4 he was involved in a collision with the City of Angels Police Department during a high-speed chase. The delivery vehicle was Common Ground Senior Services’ only four-wheel drive vehicle, and necessary to ensuring that those above the snow line received their meals. The vehicle was totaled, leaving the agency with no way to deliver meals during stormy weather. Not only did the insurance company total the vehicle, they only gave the agency ½ the amount Common Ground had paid for the vehicle just ten months earlier.

After numerous attempts with insurance agencies and the City of Angels proved futile in the attempt to obtain another vehicle, the agency put out an appeal to the community and received numerous offers of vehicles that needed to have major repair work done. Recently, Common Ground was contacted by the Calaveras Cannabis Alliance informing us that Beth Wittke, a member, brought the idea to CCA of the vehicle donation and that a 2011 Toyota was ready to be delivered to the agency within the next couple of days. The agency was informed that there were 27 farms, two business members, and five supporters that all "helped" donate the vehicle.

Common Ground would not only like to thank CCA for the donated vehicle, but also the Fire Departments that assisted with delivering meals to those home-bound clients in higher elevations during the winter storms.

Since their inception, the Calaveras Cannabis Alliance has been dedicated to reaching out to those in need in our community & caring for our county. In just 16 short months, CCA has managed to help numerous agencies throughout Calaveras County with over $50,000 in cash, garden supplies and volunteer time for various park and clean-up projects, support of school activities, along with a new freezer stocked with meat for the Mt Ranch Food Bank.

Thank you CCA for this donation, Senior Services are so important to our county. Many of us here understand that you are business owners and do care about this community. Thanks again.

I wish the greenhorners had succeeded in abolishing the ACPD a few years back. Would have prevented the accident and the need for the new vehicle.

I wish those wealthy greenhorners would have stepped up and donated one of their cars. Surely someone wasn't using their Lexus.

Of course, those greenhorners are wrapped up in their own little golfing and lunching worlds. Can't be bothered to give back to the beautiful county where they moved to.

ACPD vs CCA
Posted on: 2017-05-02 15:25:31   By: Anonymous

No question who I trust and who seems to be the better community minded entity.
ACPD likes to take away peoples civil rights.
CCA helps the community even if it is being destroyed by the cops or the legislatards.
Seems to me ACPD should pony up the money for this accident but they obviously would rather be out conducting traffic stops looking for pot.

Your ignorance is stunning. Let me also add my voice of thanks for helping our seniors. In the not too distant future Calaveras will regret not having the tax base and revenue from legal, monitored operations but that train will have left the station. Some of you may like that just fine but also consider this is one of perhaps two counties in the entire state that lost population and did not see economic growth this past year. Understand your opinion has consequences for keeping current programs in place from helping our seniors to classroom sizes. Again, thank you for your generosity CCA.

Don't let the few nay sayers on here get you down. The community is extremely grateful for the amazing generosity and care! I'm sad to see the Angels PD didn't pony up to pay for its error. Thank God for people like you who step up and help when it's needed. I volunteer with common ground and the resource connection. I know who these people are and they are some of the kindest souls I've ever encountered. Thank you thank you thank you.
