Reflections On Congressman McClintock’s Recent Roseville Town Hall meeting ~ A Letter To The Editor By Ann Bowler

Roseville, CA...We attended Congressman McClintock’s recent Roseville town hall meeting. Newspapers quoted our Congressman calling those who attended "anarchists." We knew at least 50 of the people there and that statement couldn't be farther from the truth; we knew teachers, social workers, lawyers, photographers, business owners, college professors, counselors, grant writers and other professionals, all good people and good neighbors. We were not there to riot! We were there to get answers to real questions. It is safe to say that everyone who attended did so because they are deeply concerned with the direction our country is taking and are afraid for what lies ahead.

People shared their legitimate concerns about the dissection of the Affordable Care Act and what that would mean for all, but especially for the weak, our president's mental and emotional stability as well as his cabinet choices, the waste of building a wall both in terms of dollars and the anger it would create, concerns over global warming and more. McClintock acted as if he listened, but was unable to let people know they were heard. He gave party line responses to every single person who spoke.

Were there a few people that shouted out during the discussion? Yes. Did some of those left outside shout? We assume so. People are angry and scared; they hoped their Congressman would hear them and give them specific plans for change but that did not happen.

We have two requests for Congressman McClintock. Please hold future town hall meetings in large enough facilities so more citizens can take part in the discussion. Please don’t be afraid of us, listen to us. We are your constituents and we care about our country just like you do.

We admit we fairly are new to this type of activity and see that we have things to learn as well. The next time when we go to a meeting like this (and believe us, we will), we will calm those who are shouting out; we will encourage songs rather than shouting. We agree with you on this point, Congressman McClintock: we need productive dialogue.

And for those who didn’t attend? We encourage you to read real news, find out for yourselves if there are reasons for concern and join the dialogue. We are lucky to be Americans. It is time to protect the country and the values we hold so dear.

Gawd, why don't these people use spell-check. It is "loser" not "looser" unless you were referring to your pants falling to your ankles. simply deplorable.

So you are basically admitting that rather than debate the issues, people in the audience just tried to shout him down to silence a dissenting view. The first choice of the left always has to be silencing the opposition since they know they will lose a debate on the issues. Especially against McClintock, who would wipe the floor with them.

Tommy Boy reiterated he was ok with Ryan's cut programs - cut SS, Medicare , when you already paid for it. SS is solvent for another 25 years, Medicare does need some work, but is working well. 30% of Americans don't know the ACA is Obamacare is the same thing. This due to Fox, hate radio propaganda.
McClintock wants to end the ACA, the only remedy the Republicans have is "just die" if you can't afford inflated health care costs.

The people wanted answers to issues, McClintock only had T-Party BS answers.
This was what the problem was.

The Republicans just want to erase anything with Obama linked to it.
Obamacare will probably stay the same, only will be renamed Trumpcare, being Trump likes to brand everything.

This event like many in our area and elsewhere only amplify the great divisions in our country. Happen to agree with the writer but I no longer see a way through our differences, sadly.

I live in Calaveras County. I'm not a hillbilly. I am looking forward to a McClintock Town Hall as I have many of the same questions those in Roseville presented to him. Hopefully he finds a larger venue that a local San Andreas restaurant because he's going to need it.

Constituents also need to send him emails asking about his position on activities; how he voted; etc. I do it consistently. It can take him a month to respond, but eventually I get a return email.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful letter. I agree with your positions, and I am grateful for patriotic citizens who take the time to represent common sense in the face of hypocrisy and catastrophe.

Mr. McClintock, in my estimation, acted like a coward when confronted with a very vocal opposition. He gave contemptuous lip service in answer to the very real concerns of his CONSTITUENTS. Because he doesn't agree with his CONSTITUENT'S politics, it appears that he thinks he does not, in fact, actually represent them. But he does.

In short, Mr. McClintock panicked when confronted with protest and the differing opinions of a middle sized group of angry U.S. citizens.

Didn't take much to freak him out.... and, like our present Commander in Chief, he tried to blame his cowardice on anyone but himself.

What a wanker....

You have my thanks too, Ann. Both for your thoughtful post and for the courage to have it posted with your name attached.

As you say, it would be more effective to have a civil conversation with McClintock rather than simply shouting him down (although that was the way the Tea Party treated Democrats in 2009 and later). Maybe civil conversation can happen next time if McClintock has the courage to reschedule. I will do my best to attend.

I don't know if this district can elect a Democrat but we had a chance in 2014 to elect a moderate Republican (an ex-military guy). I think that might be the way to go in order to get rid of McClintock.

Again, thank you for attending and for your post.

    Lies On More Lies

Dump seems to ignore the Constitution.
His daily lies have changes many of his voters minds, the cuts to SS, Medicare , which he said he would allow to be touched, he would hand over businesses to outside his family, the list is added to daily. Lies on top of lies, or "Alternative Facts" , as Ms Con-Way (so appropriate) said. have you had enough of his lies yet?

He thinks the presidency is a business,it is not,.
Government is not he same as business, the motives of both are the opposite, this needs to be understood by many.
Business models, do not work, as government serves the people, all the people, where a business only serves it's paid customers.
Financially also the models are also opposite, to try to use the same models will not work, as government includes the commons, a fact lost in the age of conservative politics which only acknowledges the private Profit motive especially privatization of any and all government services., which only forces the same services to cost more with profit built in . The commons are our schools, roads, water and sewerage and more. Privatization schemes tried such as Stockton's water system was abandoned after the absurd costs came to light, just one example.

The private sector will not improve services, time after time when this scheme is used the quality of the service declines, with added cost.
