Calaveras Republicans Unite To Bring Regulation To Cannabis Market

Mountain Ranch, CA...Calaveras County Republicans have united to form a local chapter of Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition, a national organization formed in 2012 with the mission to reform marijuana laws by working within the GOP to educate and connect with lawmakers, party leadership, and grassroots activists.

We are the voice for all Republicans who oppose the inhumane and unjust practice of imprisoning people for using the cannabis plant. We support efforts to bring cannabis out of the black-market and into safe, legal, and regulated use by doctors for compassionate medical care and storefronts for adult recreational use.

RAMP rejects the myth that in supporting prohibition, Conservatives are promoting law and order. We wish to change the laws of prohibition that have caused so much harm to those things Conservatives value most, namely individual responsibility, limited government, fiscal responsibility, compassion, and privacy.

Dottie Bates, a lifelong resident of Calaveras County and President of the local RAMP chapter formed the group to protect the land she loves, grew up on and chose to raise her children. “I moved back to Calaveras County because of its rural charm and values. Our economy is in a steep downward spiral and I look to cannabis regulation, and the taxes it provides, to bring Calaveras back to the prominence it deserves”.

As a lifelong member of the GOP, Mark Unterbach joined on as Communications Director after seeing the blight in the county while trying to purchase a storage business in San Andreas. “Calaveras is filled with natural beauty. Its close proximity to the Bay Area makes it an ideal place to have a vacation home. There is no economic development there and services are suffering. I see the regulation of the cannabis market, in accordance with the recently statewide passage of Proposition 64, as a way to make Calaveras great. Cannabis can do for Calaveras what wine did for Napa. The residents need to be educated and we will be bringing out fact based data to help them learn about the industry from people who know”.

Calaveras County has an election coming up on May 2. It’s important for all citizens to learn the facts in order to make an informed decision that helps the county for generations to come. For more information about the upcoming election, to support or join our group, please contact us via email to; mrsdottiebates@gmail.com or mjunterbach@gmail.com

If that's your view you're only representing the out of touch Republicans, you know that right? It's all about regulation and taxes these days, as it should be. Prohibition is over. Marijuana is legal in CA. Time to get with the program and promote regulation.

Oh, for Gods sake, stop that idiot medical marijuana crap. Research shows that very few of those seeking a recommendation for medical marijuana have cancer, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, or multiple sclerosis; and in most states that permits the use of medical marijuana, less than 2-3% of users report having cancer, HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, MS, or other life-threatening diseases.

Hey, Republicans-you don't have to lie to kick it! Just say "we want more money, more money, and more money". Greed sells-just look at your boy Trump.

Cannabis can do for Calaveras what wine did for Napa
Posted on: 2017-02-09 18:51:19   By: Anonymous

Vineyards never attracted criminals or crime, it simply just doesn't even come remotely close to having the same monetary value of pot. A pound of grapes is $2 or $3 bucks but a pound of pot is worth thousands of dollars. Which one would you rather steal? Grapes have to go through quite a complex process before it becomes wine. Pot, well hang it upside down, let it dry, trim it up and wallah you got lots and lots of CASH!!!

Comparing apples and oranges eh? One has a long history of being socially accepted other one not so much. Can you possibly see how that would affect it's monetary value. Hey didn't we experiment with that a while back with alcohol? What was the result of that my brain is foggy I think HBO has a show about it.

Cannabis, when regulation is in place, goes through heavy testing to make sure it does not contain mold, pesticide, or other impurities. Cannabis is not addictive. Cannabis does not give withdrawals. Cannabis has medical uses. You cannot say the same for Alcohol, which has a history of destroying peoples lives and can kill people that go sober after being addicted (DT's). Comparing apples to oranges here, but the stigma remains strong for some that Cannabis is dangerous because of propaganda that works readily on people consuming ideology as fact without critical thinking.

Republicans = Soulless Money Grubbing

Legalization is about one thing: making a small number of business people rich. If it were about ending the War on Drugs, recent law changes would be limited to decriminalization. Rather, a host of business interests are getting involved with the legal marijuana trade in CA, CO, and elsewhere. They have set up private equity firms and fundraising organizations to attract investors and promote items such as marijuana food items, oils, and other products. We also know these industries target the poor and disenfranchised– and we can expect the marijuana industry to do the same in order to increase profits.

[Reply ]

Conservatives are promoting law and order, my ass...

We shouldn’t give marijuana users criminal records nor deprive them of a second chance, but it’s far from the truth to say they are clogging our prisons. A 2015 survey by the Bureau of Justice Statistics showed that 0.7% of all state inmates were behind bars for marijuana possession only (with many of them pleading down from more serious crimes).

In total, one tenth of one percent (0.1 percent) of all state prisoners were marijuana-possession offenders with no prior sentences. Other independent research has shown that the risk of arrest for each joint smoked is about 1 arrest for every 12,000 joints.

Legalization is not about just “getting high.” By legalizing marijuana, the United States would be ushering in a new, for-profit industry – not different from Big Tobacco. Already, private holding groups and financiers have raised millions of start-up dollars to promote businesses that will sell marijuana and marijuana-related merchandise. Cannabis food and candy is being marketed to children and are already responsible for a growing number of marijuana-related ER visits. Edibles with names such as “Ring Pots” and “Pot Tarts” are inspired by favorite candies of children and dessert products such as “Ring Pops” and “Pop Tarts.” Moreover, a large vaporization industry is now emerging and targeting youth, allowing young people and minors to use marijuana more easily in public places without being detected.

So, if you're a soulless follower of that infamous twat Ayn Rand, this is a perfect set up. Make a sh*t ton of money, kill the addicts with their own addiction, and let God sort 'em out.

God is watching, Calaveras Republican Party.

I hope your organization can talk some sense into the local Republican Party. Their views on marijuana are out dated and do not represent the views of many local republicans. Through this, it is clear that they have abandoned the core principles of Republicanism. How can they look themselves in the mirror? Nailing up signs calling for STRICTER environmental laws, advocating for crushing land use restrictions, limiting our personal freedoms, completely disregarding the well being of our local economy and local businesses, promoting job-killing policies, vilifying firearms, demonizing Capitalism, calling for higher regulatory fees, condemning the use of agricultural water, expecting tax payers to fund an impossible drug war, all while throwing public safety and law enforcement funding under the bus. Thank goodness someone is bringing common sense back to the local GOP!
