Brandon Perez Passes Away While In Custody

Sonora, CA...On Tuesday, September 27th at 10 PM, the Sonora Police Department booked 23 year old Brandon Perez into the Tuolumne County Jail for kidnapping, domestic battery and violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Perez completed the booking process which included a medical screening and was placed into a sobering cell due to alcohol intoxication. Perez was later housed in the jail.

On Wednesday, September 28th around 6 PM, Perez fell ill and was seen by medical staff. Perez told medical staff he swallowed methamphetamine packaged in cellophane just prior to his arrest. Perez was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center by ambulance where his condition deteriorated. Perez was flown by helicopter to a Modesto area hospital.

On Thursday, September 29th, Perez died at the hospital. The cause of death is under investigation but no foul play is suspected. The Stanislaus County Coroners Office will now take over the investigation and complete the autopsy and toxicology screening to determine cause of death.
