There's A New Sergeant In Town As Sonora PD Promotes Officer Chris Rogers
Sonora, CA...The City of Sonora held testing for the classification of Police Sergeant. Officer Chris Rogers was ranked number one after all the testing components were scored. On Saturday, 26 March 2016, Officer Chris Rogers will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant within the department. A Sergeant is a front line supervisor for both sworn and non-sworn staff. Sergeant Rogers will be assigned an area of responsibility within the City as part of his new duties, along with special programs and events.
Rogers has lived in Tuolumne County for over 35 years. He is the son of Jeanette and retired Tuolumne County Sheriff Richard Rogers, who also worked for the Sonora Police Department as a detective before becoming Sheriff.
Rogers is a graduate of Sonora High School. He has earned an Associate’s degree from Modesto Junior College in Administration of Justice, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Union Institute & University in Criminal Justice Management. He has earned Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Officer certificates through POST.
Rogers has been in law enforcement for 15 years. He began his law enforcement career with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office before moving to the Sonora Police Department. While at the Sonora Police Department, Rogers was a Field Training Officer and the Department’s Fire Investigator.
In 2006, Rogers became a Criminal Investigator with the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, and assigned to the narcotics task force, where he investigated large cases centered on the manufacturing and distribution of narcotics. He was also involved in several homicide investigations.
2009, Rogers was the victim of budget cuts and went to work as a Deputy Sheriff for the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. This position too became threatened to be cut, resulting in him going to work for the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office as an Investigator. While at the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office, Rogers was a member of the Tuolumne County Fire Investigation Unit, which resulted in him becoming involved in the investigation of the Rim Fire, plus the Sonora Elementary School Fire. He also assisted with the Ricky Roberts’ homicide investigation.
April 2014, Rogers returned to the Sonora Police Department. Later that same year, he became a Field Training Officer.
