Suzanne Friedman Named Irish Day Parade Grand Marshal
Murphys, CA...Suzanne Friedman, who lists among her many Mother Lode responsibilities serving as President of the Murphys Community Club, will be riding in a green convertible as Grand Marshal of this year’s Murphys Irish Day Parade when it makes its way down Main Street on Saturday, March 21, promptly at 11 a.m. “One of the many joys we get in putting on the parade is the privilege of selecting the Grand Marshal,” states Gerry Nelson, who along with his wife Carrie are the parade coordinators. “We always look for someone who has made a significant contribution to our area. Having served with Sue on the Community Club board I know first hand how tirelessly she works to help make this the remarkable town it is.”
Sue and her husband Mel live in Forest Meadows where she is on its board of directors. They moved from Carmel Valley ten years ago. She owned and managed Dellett Associates, a marketing service agency headquartered in Pleasanton. Mel was employed as an art instructor in Monterey and Alameda counties.
In addition to her Community Club duties, which include booking events in the heavily used park, Sue is frequently called upon by the Murphys Business Association for special projects such as helping with the membership drive and seeking sponsors for Irish Day.
The Friedmans have two sons, Brent, a screenwriter and owner of media technology companies, and Erik, a professor in the Art Department of San Jose State University.
“I am truly honored, and frankly surprised, to be chosen as grand marshal,” says Friedman. “Murphys Irish Day is one the most enjoyable annual events the gold country has to offer. It has been a great deal of fun having helped put it on and to be part of the parade is very exciting. Now all we need is good weather.”
The daylong family celebration of the historic gold rush and its Irish heritage begins with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Congregational Church. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., festivities along Main St. will include live entertainment, arts and craft vendors, a petting zoo, a wide variety of foods and beverages, and a raffle with a trip to Ireland as grand prize.
Irish Day is presented each year by the Murphys Business Association. There is no admission charge. Parking and shuttle service is available at Ironstone Vineyards on Six Mile Road. Information: 728-8471 or visitmurphys.org.
