Foothills Favorite and Busy Northern California Band, Red Dog Ash, Play This Saturday Night, October 18 at Stage 3

Sonora, CA...Red Dog Ash is an award-winning bluegrass band from California's central valley. The quartet is known for its original compositions, hard-driving tunes, tight harmonies, and authentic high-lonesome vocals. Inspired by the bluegrass tradition, smart and passionate in its performance, the band's unique sound has recently and aptly been called-Soulgrass....

The band has been together for nearly five years. Lead vocalist and rhythm and lead guitar player Jason Winfree met violin maker extraordinaire Gary Vessel, who plays the mandolin, ten years ago and they played together for many years in another band. In 2009 they formed Red Dog Ash with Dixon Smith, Eli Arrigotti and Ron Cotnam joined in 2011. As winners of the Bluegrass in the Foothills Emerging Artists Performance this talented quintet has proven to be much more than just five guys in cool matching jackets. Their sound has been compared to the King of Bluegrass, Jimmy Marin and bluegrass great Doyle Lawson and it's been said that their lyrics "tell Guthrie like stories of hard living, or paint pictures of nature that rival the greatest writings of Muir."

Whatever is said of Red Dog Ash one thing is for certain, this band plays sold out shows and festivals all over the Golden State and once you attend a live performance, or give any one of their three albums a listen, you'll understand why.

"We want to people to have fun, enjoy the music. Beyond that, we'd like them to get the connection between the bluegrass tradition and the Woody Guthrie side of things (that sees a "No Trespassing" sign and notes that the there's nothing written on the other side of the sign). We'd like folks to have a feel for the deep roots of this music, and hopefully an ear for what we have to say. And, hey, if anybody wants to take home a husband, we've got a couple of eligible bachelors in the band." Jason Winfree, with his usually low key manner and sly sense of humor, told TVS.

Learn more about this band at Red Dog Ash and like them on Facebook. For tickets to the upcoming show in Sonora visit Stage 3 Theatre Company or call 209 536 1778

Doors open at 6:30 and the music begins at 7:30 and tickets are only $15.00 to see this hard working band.
