Gold Country Art Featured In July At Hovey
Murphys, CA....The paintings of Jeanne Townsend are back by popular demand for the month of July at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception will be held in her honor from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday July 6. Complimentary appetizers will be served and wine will be available by the glass for $5. “I might be pretty biased, but my sister is an incredible artist and person,” noted Jan Hovey. “Her paintings are representative of how she ‘feels’ about a certain subject, and her talent for transforming that on canvas is undeniable.”
“I am so excited to be returning for the second time to Hovey Winery Tasting Room and bringing with me a special group of Gold Country paintings I did especially for this show,” exclaimed Townsend. “This area holds a very special place in my heart, and my spirit feels at home and happy when I am here. These paintings are a love letter to this unique and beautiful corner of the world.”
A native of Los Angeles, Townsend studied Fine Art at CSU Northridge and she is a member of the Huntington Art Guild. “I am often inspired by the natural world and my art many times begins with an observation and meditation,” she recalled. “I find there is something in its forms, colors, textures and spirit that calls to me. In the process, I make connections with an inner landscape. I am drawn also to explore archetypes, myths and mystical themes that come to me in my own personal process. Sometimes I will work in a spontaneous way by letting the painting reveal itself. These are my favorite surprises, like an oracle, they can reveal a previously hidden idea or truth.”
In addition to her painting and design interest, Townsend is also a professional make-up artist working in film, television and print advertising and teaches meditation.
Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. and until 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. For more information, call 728-9999.
