What’s Happening in Murphys this Week May 14 through May 24

Murphys, CA...Save the Date - June 20-22, 2014 - Behind the Bottle Weekend - The week-end kicks-off on Friday night with a concert in Murphys Park. Bring a folding chair and a couple of blankets to settle in for a night of swing music by the band Swing Gitane. Wines by the glass and food will be available for purchase. No ticket required. Or, if you are looking for something more in depth join us for an exclusive and elegant Farm-to-Table dinner with our winemakers and winery owners. Here you will get to taste some of the best wines of Calaveras and chat with the people who make them. They will be pouring their wines before dinner and then will join you at your table during the exquisite four-course gourmet meal featuring local foods from Calaveras County. Spend the rest of the weekend chatting with your favorite winery staff while sampling their latest releases, or attend a wine appreciation, wine making, wine blending, food pairing, cheese or charcuterie workshop. Fridays & Saturdays in Murphys - Local Food & Wine Tours - Join Murphys Food and Wine Tours every Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 2:30 pm. Each tour is approximately three and a half hours. Fridays and Saturdays at Zucca Tasting Room - "Zucca After Hours" is open 5-8 pm. If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a glass of wine on a Friday or Saturday night, the Zucca garden is your place. All those firepits are even better to sit by on a cool winter evening. If the weather is just too yucky, we've got some nice bar seating in the Toscano room. And we always welcome your picnic items or takeout from area restaurants should you want to make a night of it."

May 21, 2014 - Gold Country Roasters and Outer Aisle Foods are sponsoring a FREE public event featuring two experts in the field of sustainable coffee growing, who will discuss the shade grown coffee movement and the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center’s (SMBC) “Bird Friendly” coffee certification program. The “Bird Friendly” designation is the highest ecological sustainability certification that coffee can be awarded. Coffees that are certified “Bird Friendly” are organically grown in strict accordance with rigorous standards.. GCR’s new Bird Friendly-certified Peruvian coffee will be available to sample, along with light snacks provided by Outer Aisle Foods. May 24, 2014 - Grand Opening of the Calaveras Big Trees Visitor Center and 150th Anniversary Celebration - The California Department of Parks and Recreation and Calaveras Big Trees Association are collaborating on a grand opening celebration of the new visitor center in conjunction with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first California state park. Come to the park at 11 a.m. for the official opening ceremony, followed by guided walks, children’s activities, and various surprises until 4 p.m. Food will be available for purchase. Please come and help us celebrate this grand occasion.

May 24, 2014 - Spring Wine Dinner at "The Barn" - Please join Wren Catering & Events and Hatcher Winery for a 6 course wine and food pairing dinner on Saturday May 24th, 2014 at the historic Table Mountain Ranch Barn. Matt Hatcher will pour, answer questions and entertain! The evening starts at 7 pm with wine and passed appetizers outdoors under the oaks.
