Murphys AFS Volunteers Thank Local Host Family
Murphys, CA...Each March, AFS-USA celebrates Host Family Appreciation Month. The international high school student exchange organization would like to recognize a Murphys family who has recently opened their home to the world by hosting an international student. The Emerson family opened their home to Christian from Germany in August. Marian, Roger, and their three children have enjoyed welcoming him into their home as a son and brother. Christian will stay with the Emerson’s until he returns to Germany at the end of June....
Murphys has been involved with AFS for decades and the host families in our community are critical in providing our visiting youth the opportunity to experience U.S. culture. By opening their homes to a young person from another country, host families are helping our international students develop the flexibility and compassion needed to make the world a better place for the next generation and beyond,” said Jorge Castro, President of AFS-USA. “With their generosity, kindness and support, they truly are changing lives.”
More than 2,300 AFS Exchange Students arrive in the US each year from more than 90 countries, live with local host families and study at area high schools. AFS is always looking for supportive families to host students like these. Join our global community. Find out how to host a student, study abroad, or volunteer with AFS.
