Gary Brintz Sword 1955 - 2014

Dorrington, CA...Gary Brintz Sword was born in Carmel, California on December 28, 1955. He moved to Calaveras County immediately after graduating Rancho Alamitos High School. Gary attended Columbia College and California State University Stanislaus earning a BA in Business in 1975. He began working at Bear Valley Ski area in 1975 as a lift operator its original founders, Bruce Orvis and Maury Rassmussen. His love for the mountain kept him there for the next 40 years and through 4 changes of ownership. He worked in many capacities, from lodge and lift maintenance to bar tending , snow cat driving and snowmaking. His last five seasons were spent parking cars and greeting the guests....

Gary had many passions: sports, education, music and meeting new people, to name a few. He was a professional air-guitarist and expert chit-chatter. Most will remember him for his love of conversation. He could befriend just about any person he met, and was a loyal and devoted friend. He loved music vehemently, and could be seen on many occasions rocking out with earphones in, using a shovel as a guitar. He loved taking his family to concerts and shows, and passed his passion for music on to his girls. Most of all he loved the outdoors. He spent his summers with his family , running the rivers, camping, hiking and backpacking in the desert southwest.

Gary is survived by his soul mate and wife of 36 years , Georgia Strange and two adoring and devoted daughters, Linea Marie and Lauren Elisa Sword. Gary’s warmth and kindness touches many lives and he will will be deeply and sorely missed.

There will be a celebration of life for Gary this spring in Dorrington. Details will be posted on facebook page as arrangements are made.
