Mother Lode Round-Up Queen Contestant: Ashlei Papst

Jamestown, CA... The Tuolumne County Sherriff's Posse has been sponsoring the Motherlode Round Up Queen's Contest for 37 years and the kickoff for 2014 was on a Sunday evening where the public was introduced to the six Queen Contestants for 2014. We will be featuring each of the Round Up Queen Contestants as we receive their pictures and bios! Our fourth Queen Contestant to be featured is Ashlei Papst who writes:

“My full name is Ashlei Marie Papst. Im the daughter of David and Penny Papst. I have one sister named Tiffany. I was born on May 10,1994. I graduated from Lincoln Academy Online Highschool in 2013.I have not had horses very long, only about 4 yrs. (more inside)

Before getting the "horse fever" as i call it, my family and i was a racing cars family in the West Coast Enduro. My dad is a champion in his racing series and is well-known to anyone who is a race car fan. As i grew up watching him, i always wanted follow in his foot steps and become a champion racecar driver like him. But when I got my first horse in December of 2010 as a 3yr and she is a Qh/twh palomino mare named Summer, what i wanted to do changed. Instead racing cars i wanted to race horses. Summer was very green when i got her and i was still a green rider myself. I then learned to train her myself. I learned from several different trainers and received different tips from them and put them to use on her. She is now a 7yr broke, very well trained all-around horse that will do anything. She has taught me many things including patience and also that training horses is something i want to do as a career. Since i have had her i have trained about 7 horses. Summer and i have competed in barrel racing and gymkhana. Together we have won a 2012 spring and fall series division at the San Joaquin Valley rangers located in Stockton,Ca. We also took reserve champion in division 3 in their 2013 fall series. We have also competed on their Drill team Spurs N' Lace.My future plans are i would like to get a reining bred colt and train him myself and compete in reining shows. I also look forward to training more horses in the future to further my knowledge and hopefully become a great horse trainer. Im really looking forward to the next few months getting to know the other girls and to have fun and build friendships on this rewarding journey.”

Ashlei and each contestant is responsible for selling 200 tickets and they will be looking for additional sponsors as well. Expect to see Ashlei and the others out and about their communities as they attempt to meet their goals.
