Vacation Station Will Live On At Vistors Bureau Office

Sonora, CA...The Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau’s Vacation Station Visitor Information Center in downtown Sonora is closing its doors and relocating back to the Visitors Bureau offices located on Stockton Road in Sonora across from the Mother Lode Fairgrounds....

The Vacation Station came about last Spring to welcome visitors and showcase the new “Vacationland” brand. From the beginning, the Vacation Station was opened on a trial basis to determine if this would be a good permanent location to relocate the entire Visitors Bureau operation. While initially the move was positive in regards to the location, tourism had major unforeseen challenges this past year that included the Rim Fire, government shutdown and now the lack of winter snow. All these have had a direct financial hit on the tourism industry including the Visitors Bureau.

It was determined by vote of the Bureau’s executive board to close the Vacation Station but re-create the Vacationland brand awareness at the Stockton Road Visitor Information Center.

“The financially responsible thing to do was to close the Vacation Station and relocate it, complete with the Vacationland branding, back to our Bureau business offices,” stated Bureau Executive Director, Nanci Sikes. “It was a decision that our Executive Board had to make and one that they feel is in the Bureau’s best interest in the long run.”

Visitors and residents alike are invited to stop by the Visitors Center for travel information and Vacationland branded merchandise. The Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau is open daily at 542 Stockton Road in Sonora.
