Dismembered Stockton Murder Victim Being Burned in Campfire As Arrest is Made

Groveland, CA...On January 2, 2014, Officers received information of a possible homicide at a residence in the 4500 block of Mist Trail Drive. Officers responded to the residence and found the tenants had moved out. Officers checked the residence and found evidence of a bloody crime scene, but no body. Detectives responded and determined that a homicide must have occurred at the residence. Detectives then developed information a possible suspect may be in Tuolumne County. Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office assisted and located the suspect at a campsite in Groveland. Stockton Police Detectives responded to the campsite and located a human torso in a campfire where the suspect was detained...

The campsite was secured and the suspect, Bryan Cook, a 38 year old man, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and booked at the San Joaquin County Jail. Stockton Police Detectives obtained a warrant for the campsite and located a dismembered body of an unidentified adult male in the suspect’s vehicle.

This is still a very active investigation as the motive and exact cause of death are unknown. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377, Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600, or submit a tip on the Stockton Police Department's Facebook Page.

The Stockton Police Department would like to thank the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office and State Department of Justice for their assistance.
