Christmas Parade & Open House Will Start Christmas Rolling in Angels Camp

Angels Camp, CA...Angels Camp’s 2013 Christmas celebrations kick off on Saturday, November 30, at 4 pm with the 23rd annual Christmas Parade and the Christmas Open House in the historic downtown area of Main Street. “The parade and open house have been moved forward this year to the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend,” says Sherri Smith, president of the Angels Camp Business Association, sponsors of the events. “November 30th is Small Business Saturday and we want to support our local merchants in every way we can...

“The parade and open house will now start at 4 pm. Lighted parade floats and the lights from Angels Camp’s street decorations will make the whole occasion more festive,” she added.

Santa Claus on a fire truck will again be the main feature of the parade. After the parade, Santa will return to the Visitors Center to talk with children and sit for photos.

Parade chairman Bob Menary, back for his fifth year, says the parade will start from St Patrick’s Church at 4 pm and proceed down Main Street to the Creek. “It will be dark before the parade ends, so many of the entries and floats will be lighted,” explained Menary, “and that should make it more fun for everyone.” He added that space is still available and is free, and entry forms can be obtained from www.AngelsCampBusiness.com or by email from acba.secretary@gmail.com. The main viewing area for the parade will be in front of the Visitors Center where the MC and a DJ will be located.

As soon as the parade ends – about 4:45 -- anyone wanting to join the candle-lit caroling should assemble in front of Vintage Realty to proceed up Main Street to the Visitors Center to carol around the city’s lighted Christmas tree. Local musicians and owners of Firefall Jewelers, Paul and Noreen Coca, will accompany the carolers. Main Street will be closed to all traffic from 4 to 6:30 pm.

Downtown merchants are busy planning for the Christmas Open House which also starts at 4 pm and runs until 8 pm. Shops will have special deals as well as treats, and a number the shops will feature tastings by local wineries. Music will be piped throughout the downtown during the event.

The above events are free and everyone is welcome.

On Monday, December 2, the annual Home Town Christmas Gala will take place at CAMPS Restaurant in Greenhorn Creek, starting at 6 pm. The evening will feature a delicious holiday buffet, Christmas entertainment, a live auction and dancing. Tickets are $50 a person and available at Turners’ Wild West, Middleton’s and CAMPS or by calling 736 1333. Proceeds of the auction benefit ACBA’s many community and business projects.

Another Christmas activity sponsored by the Business Association is the annual making and distribution of the Christmas Pine Boughs that are hung on posts and doorways throughout the town. The public is invited to join local volunteers on Monday, November 25th, starting at 5:30 pm at Wayne & Son at 329 N Main Street to help wire up the live pine boughs, pine cones and ribbons or to help with the truck crews that hang the boughs throughout town. In 2012 the volunteers, under the direction of chairmen Charlotte and Mike Turnbow, made and hung over 300 boughs. Bring wire cutters, gloves and an appetizer to share, and just show up. ACBA supplies liquid refreshments.

And finally, ACBA will again sponsor its annual Christmas Decorating Contest which awards prizes to the best decorated shop windows and store/building fronts throughout Angels Camp. Chaired by Jacque Hash, judging will take place during the day and evening of December 2 through 4, with winners notified on December 5. Winners receive a certificate and ribbon to display at their business.
