Steve Kearney to Challenge Darren Spellman for District 5 Supervisor Seat

Rancho Calaveras, CA...Rancho Calaveras resident Steve Kearney has announced his intention to file with the FPPC for the candidacy of Calaveras County Supervisor D-5. Kearney, a resident of Calaveras County of nearly 20 years, worked for the Longs Drugs Corporation, retiring when CVS took over the chain. His career spanned 30 years, 13 of which included managing the store in Valley Springs...

He is a graduate of San Joaquin Delta College and U.C. Davis with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Public Service. His experience includes working as a legislative aide for the California State Assembly, a Calaveras County Fish and Game Commissioner, and a Calaveras County Planning Commissioner. He has also been involved in many local organizations including the Valley Springs Booster’s where he served as president for 10 years, overseeing the annual Fireworks Over New Hogan.

Kearney states his key reason for seeking the seat is an interest in seeing the economic vitality of the county restored. He believes his experience working with business economic plans will aide him in dealing with the budget difficulties facing the county decision makers. Additionally, he has dealt with personnel management over the life of his career and can bring a different perspective to the hiring process of key positions in the county government.

He stated, “I regard living in the county as a privilege, not a right and want to make sure I have done everything possible to make this a better place to live.” The election takes place in June 2014.
