Mark Twain Medical Center announces ‘Values in Action” Awardees

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) Hospital President and CEO-Craig Marks announced the results of the annual Values in Action Awardees from 2013. The Values in Action Awards honor individuals for outstanding contributions to the health care mission of Mark Twain Medical Center. While every person that is associated with Dignity Health works toward fulfilling our Mission, the efforts of some present an outstanding example of commitment to our Values and Vision. The Values in Action Award pays tribute to these people...

Recipients of this year’s Values in Action Awards include Suzy Serra, Nutrition Services worker, for Dignity –
Respecting the inherent value and worth of each person; Polly Dodds, RN, for Collaboration – Working together
with people who support common values and vision to achieve shared goals; Victoria Maans, Chart Analyst and
Cathy Davis, Environmental Services worker for Stewardship - Cultivating the resources entrusted to us to
promote healing and wholeness. Allison Epperly, Receptionist Phlebotomist, for Justice – Advocating for social
change and acting in ways that promote respect for all persons and demonstrate compassion for our sisters and
brothers who are powerless; Amy Roggow, Family Medical Center Administrative Supervisor, and Michael
Wells, Environmental Services Manager for Excellence – Exceeding expectations through teamwork and
innovation.

The overall Values in Action Award recipient for exhibiting all five values is the Admitting Team of Kelly
Dickinson, Brooke Crouse, Amber Hobgood, Estella Barron, Brandon Saxton ,Cassea Mason, Nicole Reilly,
Maile Almeida and Maribeth Valentine– Promoting effective use of resources, building teamwork, fostering an
environment of hospitality and trust, promoting fairness and justice and implementing the connections between
personal goals and behaviors and the organization’s Mission and Values.
“These employees have been nominated by their peers, and awarded these honors because they have
exceeded the expectations of our patients and staff by daily demonstrating our Organizational Values.”
commented Hospital President and CEO Craig Marks. “Please join me in thanking each one of these
individuals for their efforts in providing outstanding healthcare to this community.”

On November 13th, each of these award recipients was recognized for their accomplishments during an
Awards Luncheon. Those in attendance also included 46 employees; collectively, totaling over 555 years
of service to Mark Twain Medical Center.

Lynn Harrell, lab scientist was recognized for 30 years of service. He shared the following comments
when presented with his service pin. “It was meant for me to be at MTMC,” remarked Harrell. “I was
born the year the hospital opened, and I came to work here 30 years later when I was thirty years old.”
stated Lynn. “I have been working at MTMC for thirty years now. I want to thank the Mark Twain
Health Care District, and all of the people associated with the hospital, past and present, for such
rewarding occupation and the life style it has provided.”

Barbara Bennett, Manger of the laboratory added “On behalf of Lynn’s coworkers and me, we want to
thank him for his dedication and the expertise he brings to work every day.”
Karen Bishop, RN Nurse Auditor was also recognized for over 35 years of service to MTMC. Jan
Collins, Patient Financial Services Manager shared the following comments with the audience, “Seven
years ago Karen accepted the position of Nurse Auditor. Her years of strong clinical experience and
attention to detail are a perfect fit for her current role. Karen’s auditing skills have saved MTMC
thousands of dollars over the years and she is an excellent example of a dedicated team player.”
