Workforce Investment Board Scholarships Available

San Andreas, CA....The Mother Lode Workforce Investment Board has vocational training and traditional education scholarships available to county residents of all ages. “The purpose of the MLWIB Scholarship is to provide individuals with training supporting the connection to job opportunities by developing skills that are needed and valued by employers,” Jeff Dickason, Executive Director of Mother Lode Job Training, said. “Our ultimate goal is to provide business with workers that have the skills that will help the business to grow and prosper and to connect each individual with a career pathway supporting their individual security and success.”

Mother Lode Job Training coordinates the scholarship program for the Workforce Investment Board. Information about the scholarship can be obtained at each of the four Mother Lode Job Training locations. To be eligible for the scholarship an individual must be a resident of Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa or Tuolumne County and meet criteria outlined in the Workforce Investment Act. The scholarship application is designed to connect the desired training or education with a specific employment goal. Assistance in completing the scholarship application is available. Priority is given to Veterans and to individuals seeking training that supports employment in growth and high demand and wage occupations.

Elena Linehan, manager of the Calaveras office for Mother Lode Job Training, said, “With so many people looking for work, an individual with specific training is often more competitive. It doesn’t matter whether it is a youth looking to start their first career or an adult looking to re-enter employment. Individuals that distinguish themselves as more engaged and more skilled are more competitive and more likely to be hired and to retain employment.”

Applications for the MLWIB Scholarships are available at any Mother Lode Job Training office. There is no deadline to apply for the WIB Scholarship. Scholarships will be rewarded to applicants who meet the criteria until the funds are depleted.

The Calaveras office is located at 700 Mountain Ranch Road, Suite A in San Andreas and is open from 8 a.m. to Noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursday. The phone number at the MLJT office in Calaveras is 209-754-4242.
