Debra Marlene's Artist Friend Month is Margaret Roberts
Mokelumne Hill, CA....Deborah Kearney, owner of Deborah Marlene’s, at 8242 Main Street in Mokelumne Hill, is pleased to announce her Artist Friend of the Month for November. It is Margaret Roberts, who resides with her husband Terry, in Valley Springs. “We all begin thinking of Thanksgiving in November, as I was pondering the theme for this month, said Deborah, Norman Rockwell and the Holiday and Family, came to my mind. I then decided to ask Margaret Roberts to share her art during this month. “
Margaret paints local landscapes, barns and old buildings; which are located in our “Home County of Calaveras.” What better theme for the Holidays? In addition to her paintings Margaret will also have cards for sale.
Margaret dabbled in oil painting, as permitted during her time of child rearing and her Teaching Career. Upon retiring, Margaret, decided to change from oils to watercolors, largely due to the late Dorner T. Schueler, who had a gallery in Murphys in the 1980’s. She recalls walking by his gallery and seeing the most beautiful paintings in the window, then telling her daughter that she wanted to paint like that someday.
Upon retiring, Margaret began taking watercolor classes from Dorner and shared 3 years of instruction, along side many other prominent artists who still reside in Calaveras County, before his passing in 1985. She sold her first watercolor painting in 1989 and has been selling since then.
Margaret is a member of the Arts of Bear Valley and recently showed at the Bear Valley Music Festival Art Show and the Big Trees State Park Show, both sponsored by the AOBV group. She also shows in other galleries.
Besides Original Paintings, Prints, Vintage Costume Jewelry and Crystal Hanging Ornaments, Deborah Marlene’s now has two more Artisans in the Gallery.
One is Joann Corso, formerly of Arnold, CA, who paints on silk scarves. These scarves are One- of- a- Kind, and would make lovely holiday gifts.
Glenda Glass of Ione, is now in the Gallery with a full line of herbal soaps. Glenda is a retired microbiologist, who is now working as an herbalist. She has many wonderful scents, as well as purposes for each soap- from unscented, for the allergy prone, to Bug Off which is scented to keep mosquitos and other critters at bay, to Dirty Hands- which smells like mint, and is said to clean very tough dirt. To accompany these, she has many relaxing and calming scents. Come on in for a sniff, soon. A specially made soap would make a wonderful hostess gift or stocking stuffer for the upcoming Holidays.
In addition, to meeting Margaret, we will have a local Artist/Author, Carol Fields, of Murphys, here for a book signing. Carol and her husband once owned the General Store in Rail Road Flat. She is a Realtor and is widely know in Calaveras County.
Her book is titled, Willi Riddlesworth Rooster… Be Careful what you Wish For.
This book was written and illustrated by Carol in 2008, and she has sold over 800 copies to date- it is geared for children ages 6-12 but she says that children younger than that are drawn to the brightly colored illustations.
Carol is known for her vivid works in Acrylics she paints in the Contemporary Style and likes to evoke a message or feeling with her works. This year she took a First Place Ribbon at the Calaveras County Fair, for her work depicting an Unemployed Veteran. I personally have studied with Carol who helped me transition to acrylics for a recent job opportunity.
There will be an Afternoon Tea and meet the Artists Reception, on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 2PM to 4PM. The Public is invited to attend. Deborah Marlene's is open from Thursday-Monday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
