Sonora, CA...We are writing to you today as your neighbors and friends in our community of the central Sierra foothills, to ask for your help. You may know FoCuS as the group that started the Calaveras school garden program, or the folks that brought Chris Martenson and his "Crash Course" to the Mother Lode. Perhaps you are familiar with us as the people who organize the annual Seed Sharing Event in Columbia each Spring, or the Community Potato Patch Harvests, or any number of educational and community building activities throughout the year in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties....
Since 2004, FoCuS has been leading the way with education and hands-on activities that help make our communities more resilient and self-reliant in the face of rapid environmental and social change. We also provide resources and nonprofit financial services to other organizations, such as the Arnold Rim Trail Association.
Our website offers you a great community events calendar, discussion forums, and articles of many kinds on topics of sustainable living. We are currently building both a seed library and equipment library and will be co-producing the upcoming Spirit/Mind/Body Expo in April 2014.
We do this work mainly on direct donations and through the continuing membership of conscientious people like yourself. We haven't solicited memberships in quite some time, but the time is now if we are to be able to continue to serve all of us.
A membership is inexpensive, easy to do, and assures you'll receive our email newsletter with important articles, upcoming events, and much more. An annual individual membership is just $30, a family membership is $50 and businesses at $100 get a premium listing in our directory as well as discounts on FoCuS events they may wish to participate in.
